The Dornier Do335 B-2 "Pfeil"

One planned series of the Do335 "Pfeil" was the B-series,
which had as a main distinguishing factor the addition of
two wing pods containing Mk103 30mm cannon. The initial
prototype for the B-series was the Do335 V14.
The 551 pound bomb options have been changed for this
version to more accurately reflect what was used on the
Do335. Two were internally carried and two were externally
carried. This plane gives you two 551s in the bay
(droppable 1 at a time) or the 1102 pound bomb, plus the
option of having two MK103s in the wings (for the B-2
variant), plus the option of having either the other two
551s on the wing racks, OR (for the people who like "what-
ifs") you can choose the X-4 wire guided air-to-air missile
<Grin>.
The X-4 missile was initially to be used on the D0335
V10 for testing. The X-4 missile had a range out to 2.17
miles, and had 44 pounds of HE with a proximity fuse. The
missile was first test-fired on August 11, 1944 from a
FW190. 1,000 missile airframes were produced, but the motor
factory was destroyed by bombing, so none made it to the
Luftwaffe. If they had been produced, it seems logical that
they would have been tried on the Do335 as planned.
Obviously, this version is not wire-guided, but if you aim
at the target within range you'll hit it! <Grin>. It's a
reasonable approximation, anyway. The wing bombs still drop
as a pair, as they should, but at least you get three drops
instead of one.
