The final collapse of Germany was
hastened in 1945 by the Allied
strikes directed against transpor-
tation and communication targets.
Despite all the tons of bombs dropped,
the Ruhr was still a viable industrial
centre in early 1945. Only attacks
upon rail yards and rail lines could
stop the factories from shipping out
the weapons, parts, fuel, and ammu-
nition they produced. The P-61B,
with its 6,400-lb. maximum bombload,
was used as a nocturnal interdiction
aircraft against many key railroad
yards and transport routes.
ORDERS:
Repeated recon flights by Allied air-
craft over the Schwerte rail yards
have aroused suspicion that an attack
is being planned. Your He219 has been
posted for watchdog duty over this
important Ruhr export terminal. Inter-
cept and destroy any aircraft which try
to attack the railyard.
