BENGHAZI TO SUEZ

On January 17, 1941, eight He111 bombers
of II/KG 26 undertook a hair-raising
mission: The bombing of Suez from
Benghazi, a round trip of over 1400
miles. Cruising altitude was set at
12,000 feet for maximum fuel economy.
The mission was beset by troubles every
step of the way. They took off in the
dark, and after a 4 hour flight, the
target convoy could not be found at Suez.
On the way home, 7 of the 8 bombers
ditched or crash-landed. The remaining
He111 landed safely, refueled, and went
on search and rescue the next morning,
saving one crew from wandering in the
desert.

MISSION

Undertake this historic mission to bomb a
convoy at Suez. If the convoy can't be
found <grin> bomb any military target in
the Suez target area.

NOTES
