                         *** Release Notes *** (more...)

Setup and Utilities:
--------------------

- Setup program v. 1.41

Running the SETUP program to select a monitor is highly recommended,
particularly if your monitor does not support all the resolutions that
the board supports. New monitors have been added to mga.mon.

- VESA driver v. 2.02

Even though your board can support at least 1280 X 1024 resolution, the
VESA driver is limited to 1024 X 768. See README.SET file for a complete
  list of VESA modes supported.

The VESA driver now supports VESA DPMS for monitor Power Management
  under DOS.

Windows Drivers v. 1.41.2:
--------------------------

- What's new in 1.4x:

  - a DPMS screen-saver, for monitor Power Management under Windows
  - the Control Panel has a new Color Cursor option, and now shows the
    current mode when minimized.
  - the 16-bit driver is now a "5-6-5" driver, giving you 65,536 colors
  - the ModeSWITCH driver now offers you a choice between the Small
    and Large fonts.
  - increased performance and reduced resource usage for both the 8-bit
    and 24-bit drivers
  - support for Chicago and Pen for Windows

- What's new in 1.41.x:

  - fixed problem with Windows driver installation
  - modified Windows driver initialization dll

- Note on Video for Windows

ModeSWITCH and Enhanced drivers are slower than the 8-bit 256 color
driver. On some systems, Video for Windows profiler may find these drivers
too slow for playback, and display an error message.
Workaround: use 8-bit 256 colors driver.

- Note on Device Bitmaps

The MGA POWER Drivers support a feature of Windows 3.1 that allows
device bitmaps to be stored in the MGA memory instead of main memory.
Device bitmaps can increase the performance of MGA drivers if there is
ample on-board memory. However when this feature is activated,
Windows 3.1 is not 100% reliable and could cause some applications to
crash. You can disable the device bitmaps feature by adding the
following line in the MGA.DRV section of your SYSTEM.INI file.

        [MGA.DRV]
        .
        DevBits=OFF
        .

AutoCAD Driver v. 1.41:
-----------------------

- What's new in this release

This AutoCAD driver fixes various bugs and increases performance for
commands such as regen, move, copy and erase.

- DynaView/3D

DynaView/3D is not supported on the following boards: MGA PCI/2, PCI/2+,
  VLB/2 and VLB/2+.

- 3D Studio

The DynaView driver has some limitations running 3D Studio (2.0 and 3.0),
and therefore is recommended only for dual-screen usage. See README.ACA for
  the details and workarounds.

Vibrant Graphics has recently added MGA to their 3D Studio 3.0 inline
driver. We recommend this new driver for single-screen 3D Studio users.
The driver is available on Matrox BBS now. Within 60-90 days, it will be
officially released by Autodesk; at that time it will be removed from our
BBS and become available from Autodesk on Compuserve.

AutoCAD for Windows v. 1.0:
---------------------------

This driver accelerates AutoCAD for Windows Rel 12 by talking directly to
the MGA hardware. It comes with a Bird's Eye / Spy Glass viewer callable
  from the Autodesk DSVIEWER command.
