Dopplegnger --- MindImage Science Fiction Adventure
MindImage Games 1985 --- by Payman Parastaran and Thomas Long

It was only 8 a.m. when you were interrupted by the call from HQ -- pretty
darn early -- but you knew you had to answer. You knew it was Argrath calling,
and Argrath is not to be ignored. Cursing the Agency, you rolled out of bed
and hastily got ready to leave.

You rode the sidebelts to Argrath HQ hastily, avoiding contact with anyone.
Lortan City was an unfriendly place when it was founded as a mining town, and
a hundred years later, in the year 2167 A.D., it wasn't much friendlier. Life
in the largest domed city on Arbelius -- Sol's tenth planet -- was unrewarding,
even when times were easier.

Ulam Parth, head of Argrath, your boss, would be disappointed to find that you
felt that way. `Now Telan,' he would say, `one should speak for oneself.' But
largely, you were. You couldn't speak for the average man, but life was hard
for you. Why shouldn't you be upset? Why shouldn't you be angry? You, Michael
Telan, were the most unappreciated hero in the Lortan City. In the whole star
system for that matter. Not one decoration from Argrath -- not one word of
thanks from the public you saved on many occasions. Oh, yes, as Parth said,
agents shouldn't need thanks. But you were only human.

Within minutes you arrived at the headquarters, which was located in an anony-
mous office building downtown. Unaware that you were about to begin your most
perlious, and most important mission of your career, you entered the building.

"Good morning, Michael," Parth greeted you -- and he rarely called you by your
first name. Parth handed you a sheaf of ordinary-looking papers, and told you
to read them. When you finished, you knew this mission was going to be tough.
"Well, Telan, I think you see the urgency of the situation. You may report to
Equipment Section when you are ready. I want to stress the need for quick
action here, Telan. Get to the bottom of this, and there's a promotion in it
for you. Lortan City stands to lose a lot here. Good luck."

Although you were encouraged by Parth's promises, as you stood up to leave, you
couldn't help but feel uneasy about this...
