The Orchid PCTurbo 286e is it's own AT-compatible computer-on-a-card that uses the host computer as a kind of south-bridge. It doesn't plug into the CPU socket as most other accelerators, but as a tradeoff it has limited support for low-level access to devices in the host computer. It uses a disk-cache which speeds up disk access considerably, but as mentioned, direct controll to the disk drive is limited so the program doesn't really wait for the drive to spin down (which may be one of the reasons it yields sligthly deviating numbers every time the test is run).

The 286 Turbo BIOS is also stored locally on the card in RAM, and it does contain various settings and variables. The BIOS checksum is therefore not consistent.

The graphics card is detected wrong due to the limited low-level access of the host hardware.

The spesificarions of the card is 1MB of 70ns RAM, and a Siemens-branded PLCC 8MHz 286. There is also an 80287, which has switches to select between 5MHz and 8MHz operation. The card itself has it's own interrupt controller and timer. In addition to the regular 82288 and the 8284/82284 combo, it also has an i8207-16 memory controller, a Gate Arrays and some PALs.

And finally my IBM XT-286. I've had some issues with it, but it rather seems like the video card is the main problem and not the actual system. Another system I have that uses the same video card does indeed reproduce some of the glitches.

I also tried to run the program in my 25MHz 486sx system, but it halts on the CPU speed test.[/QUOTE]
