===================================
THE AUDIOTRIX PRO INSTRUMENT EDITOR
===================================
The Audiotrix Pro instrument editor is a simple program that
permits the creation of additional sounds that you can
download into the OPL4 MIDI synthesizer Sample RAM add-on
daughterboard.

It is important to stress that this program does not perform
Wave file manipulation. For example, with the Audiotrix Pro
instrument editor, you will not be able to alter the PCM file
in any way to facilitate the construction of a Loop point. To
do this, use a real Wave editor (ex.: Samplitude, Sound Forge,
etc.) to find or create an appropriate loop point. Once the
loop point is defined, you can now alter the OPL4-specific
parameters in the Parameter Window (ex.: Panning, Reverb, etc.).

To edit a range of notes in a specific sample, shift-drag to
where you want to end the layer (split point). For example,
in the "Loop Window" you press the left/right arrow keys to
adjust the right sample border, and the up and down arrows to
adjust the left sample border.

The Audiotrix Pro instrument editor is an application containing
essentially 4 windows, a Main window which holds the main menu
bar and 3 additional windows: the Split Window, the Loop Window,
and the Parameter Window.

----------------
The Split Window
----------------
The Split Window contains an actual "keyboard" representation
of the multi-layered instrument.  A Multi-layered instrument
is an instrument containing more than one split. If you press
with the mouse on the Keyboard keys, you can test the instrument
and the loop point. Don't forget that you need to select the
Multiple Layer test in the Option menu to listen to a multiple
layered instrument. Sometimes, multiple layers will make the
OPL4 clip, so modify the "attenuation" parameter of the parameter
Window to reduce the clipping.

---------------
The Loop Window
---------------
The Loop Window holds a graphical representation of the PCM data
of the current layer selected in the Split Window (which can be
zoomed in/out) to facilitate the creation of the Loop point. If
you don't know where the loop is by reading it from the header of
most Patch formats, Gravis .PAT, E-Mu SoundFonts, MIDI Sample Dump
files, you can recreate it in the Loop Window very precisely and
easily.

--------------------
The Parameter Window
--------------------
The Parameter Window holds the OPL4-specific parameters. They
will be saved in the Preset file and thus in the bank file.

--------------
Other comments
--------------
The instrument editor starts up by clearing the contents of the
OPL4 memory. Don't be surprised if you lose your banks or custom
sounds. Use the bank loader to re-load them after using the
Audiotrix Pro instrument editor.

=============================
THE AUDIOTRIX PRO BANK LOADER
=============================
The Audiotrix Pro Bank loader is used to load the presets
contained in the bank (.BNK) files into the Audiotrix Pro
RAM daughterboard.

--------------------
Creating a BANK file
--------------------
Currently, there is no way to create a .BNK other than using
an ASCII editor. Just refer to the TEST.BNK example for more
information.

BANK 0 is the General MIDI set of instruments, which can be
altered and saved in RAM. BANK 1 is an additional BANK (which
does not conform to General MIDI) that can be selected by the
standard BANK change MIDI controller, in which you can hold
another extra 128 instruments for your own sequences.

-----------------------
How to load a BANK file
-----------------------
To load a bank file, click on the "Audiotrix Pro Bank Loader"
to run the program. From the menu, select "File", "Open Bank"
and then select the bank file you want to load.

INSTALLATION OF THE RAM DAUGHTERBOARD SOFTWARE
==============================================
This section outlines the changes made during the installation
process.

These files will be copied onto your hard disk in the following
subdirectories:

    \TRXPRO\OPL4RAM\LOADBNK.EXE
    \TRXPRO\OPL4RAM\OPL4-EDT.EXE
    \TRXPRO\OPL4RAM\OPL4RAM.DRV
    \TRXPRO\OPL4RAM\TEST.BNK
    \TRXPRO\OPL4RAM\STRINGS.PRS
    \TRXPRO\OPL4RAM\TRUMPET.PRS
    \TRXPRO\OPL4RAM\*.WAV
    \TRXPRO\OPL4RAM\*.MID

    \WINDOWS\OPL4-EDT.INI
    \WINDOWS\SYSTEM\OPL4RAM.DRV

The installation will replace the "midi=" line of the
\WINDOWS\SYSTEM.INI file with:

    [drivers]
    Midi=opl4ram.drv

Your old SYSTEM.INI file will be renamed SYSTEM.RAM should you want
to return to it sometime in the future.

There are two demonstration MIDI files included on the disk. These
files are located in the \TRXPRO\OPL4RAM directory. The first song
is called "BRANDEN.MID", and it illustrates the new string sounds
that are provided with this package. The second song is called
"CREDITS.MID", it demonstrates the new trumpet sound you will find
in this package. Use the "Audiotrix Pro Bank Loader" to load the
sounds, and then listen to these MIDI files using your favorite
player.
