   Workstation for OS/2 Requester client

  NetWare* OS/2 ODI workstation

This document applies to the EtherExpress(tm) 16, 16TP, 16C, FLASH,
FLASH TP, FLASHC, MCA, and MCA/TP adapters.

  INTRODUCTION
  ------------
To connect an OS/2 workstation to a NetWare server, you will need
NetWare's OS/2 Requester and the EtherExpress adapter OS/2 ODI driver.
This document outlines the installation process and assumes you are
using the INSTALL program that ships with the Novell* OS/2 requester. For
more information about OS/2 workstations, see the Novell manual "NetWare
  Requester for OS/2."

Note: If you are running IBM OS/2 2.0 or OS/2 2.1, you will need to have
the OS/2 Requester version 2.01 or later which is available from Novell.
If you are using OS/2 WARP you will need to have OS/2 Requester version
  2.10 or later.

  PROCEDURE
  ---------
  1. Run Novell's INSTALL utility on the OS/2 requester diskette and
follow Novell's instructions. When asked to enter the name of the
       network interface driver enter:

       EXP16ODI.SYS

  2. Choose the session support you need. This is based on your
configuration. See the NetWare Requester manual if you need help.

  3. Save the configuration.

  4. When asked to enter the path and filename for the driver, insert the
EtherExpress adapter disk in drive A and enter:

       A:\NWCLIENT\EXP16ODI.SYS

The Config.sys file will be modified in the NetWare Requester
       section to include the statement:

       DEVICE=C:\NETWARE\EXP16ODI.SYS

  5. When the installation section is complete, select CONFIGURATION from
INSTALL's main menu, then select THIS WORKSTATION. This allows
you to modify the NET.CFG file.

*NOTE: The default frame type for EXP16ODI.SYS is 802.2. If you are
using the 802.3 frame type, you must specify this with the FRAME
parameter in the NET.CFG file. The following is a good default
           NET.CFG file to use.

     Example:

     LINK DRIVER EXP16ODI
          PORT 300
          FRAME ETHERNET_802.2
          FRAME ETHERNET_802.3
          FRAME ETHERNET_II
          FRAME ETHERNET_SNAP

PORT matches the I/O address you selected in SOFTSET for the EtherExpress
16 adapter or in the System Configuration utility for the EtherExpress
     MCA adapter.

  TROUBLESHOOTING
  ---------------
To verify the driver loaded properly in the Config.sys file, put a "fake"
device=fake.sys statement following the EXP16ODI.SYS line. The screen will
stop and report an error message trying to load fake.sys, but you can check
for error messages or to verify the configuration of the EtherExpress16
driver, which loaded right before fake.sys.

The OS/2 error message "not getting a connection ID" is often related to a
cable problem or because the wrong frame type is being selected in the
NET.CFG. Make sure the cable is attached and the right connector is chosen
in SOFTSET for the EtherExpress 16 adapter or in the System Configuration
utility for the EtherExpress MCA adapter.
