1) NEW FEATURES
   ============
This release of the Xircom Pocket Ethernet Adapter features:

   - Correction to the PE2NDIS driver when used with Windows for Workgroups
   3.1 and printing.

   - Correction to the PE2NDIS.OS2 driver when used when the MUSER.EXE is
   executed.

   - Correction to the PE2NDIS.EXE driver when used with PC-NFS 4.0's
   NET NISSET command.

2) SPECIAL SOFTWARE NOTES
   ======================
   EPP NOTES
   ---------
The drivers on this disk support personal computers (PCs) that have
Enhanced Parallel Port (EPP) capability. This new high-speed technology
has been incorporated into Intel's new 25Mhz SL chip set in the 82360SL
I/O controller. To enable EPP mode on an EPP-capable computer, see your
   Xircom User's Guide.

This release contains a newer version of the EPP utility files.
Please note that the network drivers on this disk MUST be used
with the EPP utility files on this disk. The EPP utility files
on this disk will support previous versions of the network drivers.

To enable the EPP utility on the COMPAQ LTE Lite, first use Compaq's
SETUP program to change the default LPT port to LPT2.

   NETWARE SERVER DRIVER NOTES
   ---------------------------
PE2.LAN is a NetWare server driver for Xircom's Pocket Ethernet Adapters
II. It requires two other NLM's be loaded to operate correctly in a
Netware 3.1X server environment: MSM.NLM (or MSM311.NLM) and
ETHERTSM.NLM. When using a NetWare 4.0 server you can load the PE2.LAN
driver automatically without the added *.NLMs which are needed in 3.1x.

To use these 4.0 server drivers with a 3.1x server you will need to
   load the following in sequence:
   1. PATCHMAN.NLM
   2. LSLENH.NLM
   3. MSM31X.NLM
   4. ETHERTSM.NLM
then load the PE2.LAN server driver

The drivers will automatically detect the Printer Port in use by reading
the machine's BIOS table if the printer port FFFF (default) is selected,
however, the interrupt must be specified on the command line. The printer
port may be overridden on the command line also. The keyword 'NON' forces
the driver to run in Non-Bidirectional mode.

If EPP.COM is run from DOS before the SERVER.EXE is started, the driver
will operate in Enhanced (EPP) Mode.

   The command line usage is:

   load pe2 int=X port=Y [lpt=Z] [non]

   Where:
X is the interrupt number - values are 7, 5, or 0 for none.
   Y is the I/O address - values are FFFF, 3BC, 378, or 278
Z is the parallel port number - values are 1, 2, or 3
   NON specifies Non-Bidirectional mode
   LINKDISABLE disables link integrity

NOTE: There are several ways to select the I/O address for the driver.
Using FFFF as the port address will cause the driver to
determine the address automatically. If the I/O address is known
it may be forced using the port= keyword. The LPT number may also
be forced to cause the adapter to use a certain parallel port.

   ODI NOTES
   ---------
If you are using a NET.CFG configuration file with your ODI driver, using
"=" is not a valid syntax.

For example, use INT 7 instead of INT=7.

Also, manual selection of the LPT value is not supported.

   PPX NOTES
   ---------
Software support for the Xircom Parallel Port Multiplexor (PPX) is
programmed into the DOS drivers provided on the current version of the
Xircom Network Drivers diskette. The network device driver will detect
whether or not PPX hardware is present. DO NOT load a separate PPX
   driver (i.e., PPX.COM or PPX.SYS).

When you use the Xircom adapter with a Xircom Parallel Port Multiplexor
(PPX) and a printer, be sure that your printer is turned on before
   you load your network drivers.

The PE2NDIS.OS2 and PE2ODI.OS2 drivers do not support the Xircom Parallel
Port Multiplexor (PPX). Local printing is supported under DOS only.

Some machines with Enhanced Parallel Port (EPP) capability may not
support EPP mode when used in conjunction with a PPX.

   WINDOWS FOR WORKGROUPS
   ----------------------
The PE2NDIS.EXE driver which is included with Microsoft's Windows for
Workgroups may be a version previous to the one on this disk. We
recommend using the driver contained on this disk.

An OEMSETUP.INF file is provided in the root of this
diskette. This file will allow you update the PE2NDIS.EXE driver that is
included with Microsoft's Windows for Workgroups. Follow Microsoft's
instructions for adding an updated network adapter driver. During this
process you will be prompted to insert a floppy and type the path for the
driver. Insert this diskette and specify the following path:

   A:\

The updated driver will then be copied from the floppy to the local
hard drive. Complete the installation according to the Windows for
   Workgroups instructions.

   WINDOWS NT NOTES
   ----------------
The Windows NT driver provided on this diskette is designed for use
with Windows NT version 3.1. Later versions of Windows NT are
supported with the Pocket Ethernet Adapter III. To obtain information
about the Pocket Ethernet Adapter III, see Section 4,
"Worldwide Support Services" and call the US Sales Support
for upgrade information to the Pocket Ethernet Adapter III.

3) MACHINE SPECIFIC NOTES
   ======================

Mitsuba Ninja, Packard Bell 286 LPV
   -----------------------------------
When using under Novell NetWare, interrupt 7A must be disabled by creating
a SHELL.CFG file which contains the line: INT7A=OFF

   Compaq LTE Lite/20, Lite/25
   ---------------------------
When using the COMPAQ LTE Lite/20 or Lite/25 in EPP mode, run Compaq's
setup program and change the printer port from LPT1 to LPT2 before
loading the Xircom EPP utility to enable EPP mode. When the network
driver is loaded, a message will indicate that LPT1 is being used.
