README.TXT For REALmagic Maxima Pro(TM) Windows NT drivers
Rel 4.4 - 3/16/98  (Build 69)
=============================

This file contains important information . Please take time to read
through it for the proper installation and use of the drivers.

SPECIAL NOTE FOR MATROX MILLENIUM 2 USERS :
=========================================
    Using the Matrox Millenium 2 display adapter requires that you do
    the border adjustments from the Advanced option since the REALmagic
    driver cannot read the frequency. To do this, from the REALmagic
    group, run "REALmagic Configuration" - select Advanced - Border
    adjustment. Change the frequency to the following :

          ref * horiz.lines  *  1.03

    where ref is Refresh Rate (such as 75 Hz)
           horiz.lines is the number of pixel lines for the current
                          resolution such as 600 in 800*600 Res.

    Then adjust the borders and click OK.

1 - SOFTWARE INSTALLATION
    =====================

1 - In the Program Manager, menu option File-Run, start the program
	Setup from your floppy drive (e.g. A:).

2 - You will get a screen from InstallShield and a Welcome window.
	Click on Next.

3 -	Setup will propose "C:\Program Files\rmPro\" as a default
	directory. Click "Next" to accept or type your preferred path.

4 -	Setup will propose a name for the group "REALmagic Pro".
	Click on "Next" to accept or type your preferred name.

5 -	Setup will start copying the files to the different
        directories. See list at end of this file.

6 -	After copying, you get an "information" window informing you
	that this portion of Setup is done. You need still to define
	the resources.  Click OK.

7 -	You will see the new group for "REALmagic Pro". Double-
	click on "Resource Management".

8 -	Choose at the right side the IRQ and Port that are free.
	For the port, you can click the down arrow to see the possible
	choices. Also click the "Load at boot" if you wish so. If you
	don't, you MUST execute the following two commands at the
        command prompt "net start mpegport" and "net start rmpro"
	after NT has finished booting.

9 -	Click OK for the message "You must restart Windows to have
	changes take effect".

10- If the drivers do not load, find the error message reported
        by the driver. This message will be displayed if you manually
        started the driver (with "net start rmpro"), or it will be in
        the event viewer (with the "Load at boot" option).

Error message           Cause
-------------           -----
Invalid Address There is some kind of resource conflict.
  			Verify that the IRQ and I/O chosen are
			not in use.

Device Not Ready The board could not be found at the specifed
			address. Try choosing another address, then
			restart the computer by powering off/on.
			Usually, the case is that the IO address is
			already being used, but not reported or that
			the board is not in the computer!

NOTE : To uninstall, double click on the "Uninstall" icon from the
       REALmagic Pro group. This will delete all specific
       files and will remove the group.

2 - BORDER ADJUSTMENT AND COLOR CALIBRATION
    =======================================

1 -	After rebooting, go to the REALmagic Pro group
	and run "REALmagic Configuration".

2 - Use the arrow keys to align the MPEG window on top of the
	magenta window, making sure that it covers the black borders
	of the magenta window.

3 -	To change the width of the MPEG to match the width of the
	magenta window, press the Left or Right arrow and then the
	+/- keys to adjust the width. Click OK.

4 -	Select "Key Color". At the bottom of the new window choose
	the key color preferred. It is a medium green by default.

5 -	Use the "W" and "L" keys of the "R", "G", and "B" groups
	(red,green,blue) in a way to show MPEG on the border while
	minimizing the hole in the middle colored area.

NOTE : You must set the Border Adjustment and Color Calibration
        settings to finalize the installation. You need to set the
        Border Adjustment and Color Calibration only once for each
	display settings (resolution, number of colors, and refresh
	rate) under Windows.

3 - REALmagic MIXER
    ===============

If you adjust the volume while playing an MPEG file, you'll have the
option to adjust it for the current playback or as a default for
subsequent MPEG files. Besides the volume adjustment for the MPEG
audio signal, the RM Mixer has got three additional TV set-like
faders for the following :

	- Fader "B" for Brightness Control
	- Fader "C" for Contrast Control
	- Fader "S" for Saturation Control

You can adjust these faders while playing an MPEG file for a better
control of your setting.

6 - MISCELLANEOUS
    =============

  - The driver can be invoked by the programs with the following
     names : Reelmagic or MpegVideo.

  - SUPPORT for MMIO functions to read data out of a hard drive (not
     when reading out of a CD-ROM). Therefore, you can use your own
     installed I/O procedure (see mmioOpen function and MMIOProc
     callback description for further details) to perform bufferized
     or device specific I/O.

  - MCI driver supports MCIWnd Class programming API.

  - The administrator and any user who has the right to modify the
     Registry are the only people who can install the drivers. They
     are also the only people to change the "Load at Boot" check box
     (even though others, such as guests, might change it but it will
     get reset at booting time). The guests are able to run the
     drivers in "Load at Boot" mode only ( they cannot use the "net
     start rmpro").
