                            AUTO-MODE DETECTION

  Description:        Selects various options for the automatic detection
                      and negotiation of protocols during the handshake
                      process if the modem is communicating with a remote
                      modem of dissimilar speed.

  Description:      Counts the number of ring-cycles the modem receives
