This file (history.txt) contains information regarding history of
the program ARCHIV, how it was developed since version 1.0.

At the beginning of the file you can find changes in the latest
version. At the end there is the oldest version of the program.

- Multi-lingual version of the program: english, slovak and
  czech. You can create your own language version.
- Changed characters encoding for slovak characters from code
  page 867 to 852 (Latin 2). Now the characters are correctly
  displayed also in windowed mode in Windows.
- New command Disk|Find on disk.
- It is possible to continue reading disk information after
  an error appears.
- New feature in dialog Options|Screen: Left-handed mouse.
- Program uses COUNTRY information from DOS. It specifies date
  and time formats and thousands and decimal separators.
- Reading of file contents from compressed files is implicitly
  turned off because of the possible lack of memory in
  unregistered version. You can turn it on in the dialog
  Options|File contents.
- Several bugs fixed.

- File content is loaded also from compressed files. External
  programs are required for that, see dialog File content.
- You can write a short description for each disk and optionally
  display it in the disk list.
- Commands from menu Disk which are below the divider (Disk
  description, Disk notes, etc.) work in the disk list.
- Dialog for choosing a disk displays available drives.
- You can save to a file or print results from normal searching
  and searching for duplicate files
- New command Catalog|Add directory.
- New command-line parameter /A specifies the catalog directory.
- New features in dialog Options|Searching:
    - Searching by file date (since-to)
    - Sort find by file name
    - Independent setting for file names and directory names
- New dialog Options|General.
- Number of disks can be displayed at the bottom of the disk
  list window.
- Files with content are marked by a big dot.
- Progress indicator is displayed while searching.
- New command Options|Save options with history.
- Options can be saved either to the directory with the program
  ARCHIV (global configuration) or to the current directory
  (local configuration).

- Compressed files whose date, time and size hasn't changed are
  not rereaded and their previous contents will be used. It means
  a rapid speed improvement.
- For files with contents: If file's date, time and size hasn\t
  changed its content is not rereaded and previous content will
  be used.
- Main operations can be executed using command-line parameters:
  update disk, add disk, find file/text. You can learn syntax
  using ARCHIV /?.
- Added intelligent searching for duplicate files. You can find
  equal files and also "similar" files. It is best for searching
  for older and new versions of programs.
- New commands Disk|Count directory content, disk content.
- New command Catalog|Change label in list.
- You can choose what is in the right bottom corner: clock or
  free memory in the dialog Options|Screen.
- For every compressed file type there are three possibilities:
  read [X], do not read [ ], with prompt before reading [?]
- Added shortcut Ctrl-\, go to root directory.
- A few mouse improvements: Click on the clock or right-click on
  the disk-list or file-list.
- In the bottom of the file-list the number of real files is
  displayed. Before it included directories and "..".
- Long numbers are displayed with thousand and millions
  separated.

- Bug-fixing version ARCHIV 2.3a:
    - with some mouse-drivers (about half of them) the mouse
      cursor disappeared
    - updated screen font, better characters with accents
- New supported compressed file type - RAR, including SFX and
  multi-volume archives.
- You can write a short comment for each file. Comments from
  compressed files are read automatically. Display and print
  options for comments are set in menu Options.
- New feature - print disk list.
- You can use black & white mode (useful for LCD-display) and
  cancel font with accents after program exit.
- More comfortable setting for compressed files in
  Options|Compressed files.
- File viewer (F3) accepts files with lines separated by LF. Till
  version 2.2 it had to be CR/LF or CR.
- For non-standard diskette formats (800.COM etc.) the disk size
  is not rounded to the standard size.
- Program running in protected mode and using all free memory
  (registered users only).
- A few minor improvements and bug-fixes.

- Bug-fixing version 2.2a:
    - reading self-extracting archive created with PKZIP
    - reading ZIP-file which contains ZIP-file
    - reading ARJSFXJR-file
- Reading data from compressed files (ARJ and ZIP). Complete
  support for self-extracting and multi-volume archives.
- Information box during long-time operations and ability to
  abort them using Ctrl-Break.
- Program recognizes options file from version 2.1 and uses it.
  Then it saves a correct options file.

- Ability to change disk label.
- Program does not create data files with names containing
  spaces. They are replaced by underlines. Files with spaces
  worked on local disks but caused problems on network disks. For
  example Novell removes spaces from names and ARCHIV hates if
  someone renames its data files.
- In Options|View added:
    - Quick disk select
    - Sort disks by
         label, size, free space
         descending
- Static box during long-time operations.
