This file contains a short overview of the BX package and some
    last-minute information.

    1 - Introduction
    ------------------
The Brief Extension Macro Package (BX) consists of a set of macros
which significantly enhance the functionality of Brief v3.1.

File MANUAL.TXT contains the User Manual.

BX is a SHAREWARE product. An unlicensed copy of BX is intended to
be used for evaluation only. All the BX macros, except "bx_gr", are
fully functional but you cannot execute more than 6 BX macros per
Brief session. The global replacement macro "bx_gr" cannot be used
without a licence. Finally, an unlicensed copy of BX displays a
registration reminder each time you start a new Brief session. You
can skip the registration procedure until you are ready to register.

The BX package is owned by Streamware Ltd. You may not modify it
(except for your own use) and you may not sell it.

You may duplicate any UNLICENSED copy of BX and you may distribute
it freely as long as you keep it complete and unchanged in its
original ZIP file. You may not distribute a licensed copy of BX.

To obtain a licence, you should follow the registration procedure
given in section 9 of MANUAL.TXT. If you wish to pay by credit card
(charge card), you will need to contact one of the registration
    sites listed in CRE_CARD.TXT.

Before using BX, please read the Disclaimer in section 11 of
    MANUAL.TXT.

    2 - Installation procedure
    ----------------------------
The installation procedure does not affect your current Brief set-up.
NO BRIEF FILES ARE AMENDED and BX can be de-installed very easily, as
explained in section 7 of the User Manual (in file MANUAL.TXT).

If you decide to use BX on a regular basis, you will need to amend
(or add) two lines in your AUTOEXEC.BAT. However, a small command
file is supplied to enable you to try BX without amending
AUTOEXEC.BAT. This command file only amends the Brief environment
variables BPATH and BFLAGS. All this is explained in detail in
    section 2 of MANUAL.TXT.

To install BX, you will need a copy of BX060.EXE or BX060.ZIP.
Both contain the same files but the former is self-extractable.

    Follow this procedure:

    a) create directory \BXMAC

    b) put file BX060.ZIP in \BXMAC and unpack it or
put file BX060.EXE in \BXMAC and execute it.

NOTE: you can use a directory name other than \BXMAC but, if you
do so, you will need to amend two BX files (with Brief).

    c) continue with the instructions given in section (2) of MANUAL.TXT
       to complete the installation.

    3 - Keystroke repeat rate
    ---------------------------
On a fast PC, you may find it impossible to control the keystroke
repeat rate by using the 'k' flag in the BFLAGS environment variable.
The solution to this problem is to use the 'k' flag without a number
after it. This enables you to set the keyboard repeat rate outside
Brief. For instance, in DOS 5 or later, you can use the mode command:

      MODE CON: rate=32 delay=1.

In Windows 95, you can adjust the repeat rate and delay from the
    Control Panel.

    4 - Keyboard configuration
    ----------------------------
BX includes a powerful macro, bx_keys, which you can use to
assign keys to the BX macros. In general, when you amend your
keyboard configuration, bx_keys changes file BX_CONFI.CB and
executes the Brief CB compiler to recreate BX_CONFI.CM. The
compilation may fail if not enough RAM is available.

In order to avoid this problem, you should include the M flag in
the Brief BFLAGS environment variable. Alternatively, you could
compile BX_CONFI.CB outside Brief. This is done by typing the
command "CB BX_CONFI" at the DOS prompt.

    5 - Product support
    ---------------------
Please see section 10 in MANUAL.TXT for details on how to
get help if you experience difficulties with BX. See also
email adddress and FAX number at the end of this document.

6 - Your comments and suggestions
    -----------------------------------
We welcome your comments and suggestions. Please let us know what
improvements or new facilities you would like us to implement in BX.

If we implement a facility proposed by users, the first two users who
make the suggestion will receive, free of charge, a fully licensed
copy of BX with the new facility.
