INTRODUCTION
============
Welcome to PC-BLOX, the original easy-to-use building block toy for kids.
Since PC-BLOX is so easy to use, it doesn't really need an instruction
manual. This document is a quick-start guide to installing the program
and getting it going.

HARDWARE REQUIREMENTS
=====================
PC-BLOX is a DOS program and it also runs great under Windows 3.1 and
Windows 95. It's not very demanding and will run well even on some very
old computers. Here are the requirements:

   386sx or better processor
   color VGA or MCGA graphics
   mouse and mouse driver software
   3 Megabytes of hard disk space
   at least 560 K of free conventional memory

Almost any PC built since 1988 meets these requirements.

GETTING READY TO INSTALL PC-BLOX
================================
Your copy of PC-BLOX may have come ready-to-run on a diskette OR may
be a single compressed ZIP file that you got from a bulletin board or
the internet.

If you have a single compressed file you must first extract the program
files with the appropriate utility such as PKUNZIP, WINZIP etc. Extract
the files to either a diskette or a temporary directory on the hard disk.
Now you will have the following files:

  DATA.LZH A compressed file that contains the actual program.
  LHA.EXE A utility that extracts .LZH files.
  INSTALL.EXE A program that helps you install PC-BLOX and read
                   the help files.
  PC-BLOX.TXT      This help file.
  ORDER.TXT        PC-BLOX order form.
  VENDOR.TXT Info that describes the shareware version.
  FILEID.DIZ       Also describes shareware version.

Other files may also be present.

AUTOMATIC INSTALL (RECOMMENDED)
===============================
From a DOS prompt or the Windows 95 Start/Run box, run INSTALL.EXE .
Follow the on-screen instructions. This will put PC-BLOX on the hard
disk drive C: in directory C:\PC-BLOX .

If the install program detects Windows 95 it will also add icons to
the desktop and program menu.

MANUAL INSTALL
==============
If you don't want PC-BLOX in C:\PC-BLOX you can specify another drive
and/or directory. Note: PC-BLOX has only been tested on ordinary hard
disk drives but MAY work from other storage devices such as zip drives
etc.

Use the LHA program to manually extract PC-BLOX to the drive:\directory
you want:

         LHA x DATA.LZH drive:\directory

STARTING PC-BLOX
================
On a DOS computer type CD \PC-BLOX (or whatever directory you used).
Once in the directory type PC-BLOX to start the program.

On a Windows 3.1 computer exit to DOS and follow the instructions above.
If you are proficient with the PIF editor you should be able to get
PC-BLOX to run directly from Windows.

On a Windows 95 computer click on the desktop icon or use the
Start/Programs menu.

PLAYING WITH PC-BLOX
====================
PC-BLOX is very easy to learn. The center of the screen is the building
area. Point and click wherever you want to place a block. The different
menus and controls are in the corners of the screen. Playfully explore
these with the mouse to see what they do. The help is the question-mark
button in the upper left: |?| Try it for more information.
