-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Minimum System Requirements:
IBM 8086 compatible, floppy drive, MS-DOS 5. Anything better than this
will be able to use the program. A printer is suggested so you can print
out documentation and reports.

Starting the program:
MS-DOS - change to the program's directory, type PERSON.EXE and hit
         enter to start.
Windows 3.x - Select File, then Run, then use browse to find and run
              PERSON.EXE.
Windows 95 - Select Start on the toolbar, then Run, then use browse to
             find and run PERSON.EXE.

The program's main menu options:

        1) Review documentation - allows you to view or print this file
and the ORDER.TXT file.

        2) Take the test - this will first ask you for your first and
last name, your birth date, and sex. You'll be able to correct any
mistakes before taking the test. When the test begins, you can enter or
edit each answer and then press Enter when you feel the answer is
correct. It is important that you do not think too long on any question,
as it may affect the accuracy of your test. When the test is finished,
the program will calculate your personality type and show it on the
screen when calculations are finished. You will then have the options
to view, print, or save your report.

        3) Review your test - once you have taken the test, you'll be
able to use the Review Test option in the main menu to view, print, or
save your report again in the future.

        4) Print the test questions - this will allow you to print the
entire test on paper so you can let people without computers take the
test. You could print out a test and make photo copies for your class,
for example.

* Option For Registered Users Only! *
        5) Review all users - this will allow you to review two types
of reports based on all the users that have used the program. These
functions are very useful for large-group testing.
                1) Condensed reporting - will show each user's info on
one line. The last page will show a small summary based
on averages of each user's information overall.
                2) Full reporting - will show a full-page standard
report for each user. This may take many Kilobytes of
disk space, so I recommend that you only run this report
if you're running this program on floppy!

Special operations:

Printer port - the program allows you to select a specific port
where your printer is located. If you have multiple printers, you can
easily send a report to a specific printer, for example. The program
supports up to three standard printer ports: LPT1, LPT2, and LPT3. On
systems with only one printer port, the port is almost always LPT1. If
your printer is on a COM port instead, you can either save reports to
text files and use another program to print them, or use MS-DOS to
redirect printer data from LPT1 to the printer's COM port (see your
MS-DOS manual). You only have to select the printer port once each
time the program is started, but if you wish to change the port you'll
need to exit the program and restart to do so.

Program files - there are two main types of files the program
will need to access when it's running, program files and temporary
files. Program files are the main files in this package and personal
information files the program creates when people use it. Temporary
files are used when creating and calculating reports and deleted when
they aren't needed any longer. In order for the program to work right,
you should install the program to a hard disk - if it's on removable
media like a floppy disk, be sure the write protect tab is in the
'unlocked' position so the program can write files to disk. The program
will store its files in its own directory at all times.

Saving reports - the program saves reports in standard ASCII
format, which means in standard 80 column DOS text. You can name your
file anything you wish if you save your report, but I suggest that you
save your file with the .TXT extension, since it is the standard file
type used for ASCII text files. This will also make the file easier to
find with MS-DOS's EDIT.COM or Windows' Notepad.

Calculating reports - the program calculates reports using many
equations and some floating-point math. It has a procedural math
emulator built-in, so you don't need an 80x87 co processor (but the
program will use one if present). On 8086 or 8088 machines, the program
may take some time for calculations, but newer systems should have no
speed problems.

Myers-Briggs - the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator was designed by
Katharine Briggs and Isabel Briggs Myers in the mid-1940's and became
the standard personality type indicator for psychologists around the
globe. Today, numerous versions of the original test procedure have
been implemented by schools, colleges and businesses to see where
people fit best in the work place - to increase productivity and to
expand one's vision on his/her career route. The test uses a simple
scoring procedure and indicates which categories best suit you, and
break down your personality into a four-letter personality type. This
four-letter type scheme is also used today by many psychologists to
categorize their patients. This program that I designed is based on the
original Myers-Briggs Type Indicator and uses similar questions, but
I've come up with a different scoring scheme. The Myers-Briggs test
uses a point-scoring scheme, and you total the points for each category
and the categories with the highest scores of each type-pair are your
personality type. My program uses formulas to calculate the percentage
of each category - based on the score for a single category divided by
the overall sum of all the scores. This gives a better picture of your
personality and is easier for you to read at-a-glance. I also believe
that it may be just as accurate as the original scoring system - I've
found that 4 out of 5 beta-testers of the program thought its results
were very accurate if not perfect, and the remainder said that the
results were generally true in some respects, but the results made them
think more about themselves overall.
I would like to add that the final output for each category
of this program is based on the original personality types found in the
Myers-Briggs Type Indicator(R), which was published by Isabel Briggs
Myers in 1962. I wanted the program to be as accurate as possible, and
comparable to the standard information of the original test. By
accomplishing this, my program may also be used in psychology.
Viewing on-screen - when you view reports or documentation on
the screen, the information may be 'split-up,' you'll see a MORE
indicator at the bottom of the screen. You can press any key to go on
to the next part of the document you are viewing. Please note that you
cannot page back up the screen, it will only scroll one direction. Many
of the view options in the program use MS-DOS's TYPE command to display
files on the screen - this enabled me to make the program smaller but
does bother some users because they can't page back up again.

Finally, I'd like to say that if you have any comments,
suggestions or questions, let me know ASAP. And also important - if you
find any bugs in this program, get in touch with me! I try my best to
make all my software bug-free. Sincerely, Arthur Dellea

-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Following are the changes made between versions since version 1.00:

Version What was changed or fixed
1.01 1) On systems without a TEMP environment variable set the
program would exit with an Error 76 or similar. This was
fixed by hacking code to use the program's directory for
                temporary files instead.

                2) The printer port only has to be chosen once each time
the program runs, rather than each time you print...but
you have to exit and restart the program to switch to a
                different printer port.

                3) The program now generates INF files for each person
that uses the program. These files use very little disk
space and allow users to review their most-recent test
                results.

                4) A new command in the main menu lets users review
their latest test data by entering just their first and
last names. This function uses the INF files to confirm
the user's info, and asks the user if it's correct
before going on. If the user hasn't used the program
before or their INF file no longer exists, the user can
enter just their four-letter personality type to
generate a report, or take the entire test.

1.02 1) Made a few changes to the original test questions and
answers. Many of the questions were based on the original
Myers-Briggs test, and I felt some were too vague or were
not easily understood by some of the beta-testers. A few
people got to specific questions in the test and chose
any old answers to bypass the questions, which affected
                their test results dramatically.

                2) The registered version of the program features another
main menu command that will review the list of all the
people that used the program, in condensed or full-report
format. This would be great for businesses or teachers,
who had many people use the program and would like to see
overall statistics or print everyone's results and hand
                them out.

                3) Updated the ORDER.TXT file, to add a special option
for registered users. Registered users can get a 50%
Upgrade Discount when upgrading to latest version.
Please contact me before upgrading with your version
number since newer versions may not be available.

                4) Registered users get their names printed in the main
menu, unregistered users see Unregistered flash on the
screen (and don't get registered options)! If you
specified certain CPU types, etc., I'll even compile the
                program just for you!

1.03 Fixed a few spelling mistakes and changed the opening
screen a little. Sorry for my awful spelling!

1.04 All the registered features are fully enabled, but I
urge you to please register the program out of the
kindness of your heart if you enjoy using it.
