     CONV_NAR.COM -- Utility for Converting NARATIVE.CF to DESCRIPT.ION Files

CONV_NAR is provided as a freeware adjunct to the CMFiler Version 6
file manager. CONV_NAR should be run prior to running CMFiler 6 if
there are existing NARATIVE.CF notes files created by previous versions
     of CMFiler.

The original file format for storing CMFiler "notes" was a format
called NARATIVE.CF. This format differs from the DESCRIPT.ION format
used by NDOS/4DOS for storing the same kind of information in each
directory. With Version 6, we have shifted to the DESCRIPT.ION format,
     and done away with NARATIVE.CF.

CONV_NAR.COM is executed from the DOS prompt with no command line
parameters. An opening screen describes its function and requests
confirmation to continue. The user must then type a hard disk letter
     number. CONV_NAR does the following:

          1. Compiles a table of all directories on the hard disk, and sets
each directory in turn as the current directory.

          2. In each directory, reads into memory the existing DESCRIPT.ION
file, then finds each file with a Windows 95 long filename and converts
it into a note in the DESCRIPT.ION format.

          3. Then reads into memory and converts to DESCRIPT.ION format the
NARATIVE.CF file in that directory, if one exists.

          4. Finally, reads and coverts into DESCRIPT.ION format any DIRN-
???.DAT file with notes, created by the PC Magazine utility DIRNOTES.

          5. Deletes duplicates, where the highest hierarchy in the existing
DESCRIPT.ION file. Then deletes any entry for which a file or
subdirectory does not exist, and creates a new DESCRIPT.ION.

Since they are no longer used by CMFiler, the NARATIVE.CF files are
     deleted from the directories.
