ZEN Software Presents the ZEN Shareware Series

The Zen(tm) series from KEI consists of ZenWord, ZenCalc, and the
Zen DOS shell, uploaded as ZENWORD.ARC, ZENCALC,ARC, and ZEN.ARC
respectively. This README.TXT file is contained in each.

ZenWord is a simple word processor for IBM PCs and compatibles.
The version 1 in ZENWORD.ARC is self-documenting and was chosen
editor's choice in last year's PC Magazine comparison issue on
word processors. To start it, simply type ZW at the DOS prompt.
If the first key you press after it has started is a question
mark, you will enter its in-context help system and can PrtScr
each page for paper documentation if you wish.

ZenCalc is a simple worksheet which includes worksheet linking
and a complete set of built-in functions. A private-label
subset of it -- MyCalc -- was also chosen editor's choice in PC
Magazine. Type ZC to DOS to get it started, and press ? to get
help as in ZenWord.

The Zen DOS shell forms a simple interface between you and DOS,
allowing you to execute Zen programs by simply cursoring to your
document or worksheet file and pressing the Enter key. Common
DOS commands, such as Copy, Erase, Format, and so forth are also
implemented as menu commands complete with in-context help as in
the other Zen programs. Start it by typing ZEN to DOS; again,
use the ? key for help at any time.

                ---------------------

Each of these programs was sold last year for $39.95, and each
has been extensively improved and expanded since then. ZenWord
and ZenCalc are both versions 2+ now; the Zen DOS shell is far
nicer and more usable; and there are ZenLink telecommunications
and ZenFile lightning-fast database programs that interface
easily with the other Zen products.

For instance, ZenWord Version 2 now contains a mail merge
function, a super-fast 90,000 word spelling checker, supports EGA
43-line mode and color, and has printer drivers for about 50
popular printers, including font cartridges on laser printers and
italics, superscripts, subscripts, and user-definable custom
fonts on all.

ZenCalc Version 2 has a greatly expanded worksheet area, contains
most of Lotus's (tm) financial functions (including internal rate
of return, loan calculations, etc.), now includes linear
regression and other statistical analysis functions, comes with
sample worksheets for loan amortization, real estate investment
analysis, a complete 1040 income tax form together with
supporting schedules, and sample small business general ledger
worksheets. It is also many times faster than version 1, now
only recalculating the cells which actually depend on the changed
one instead of the entire worksheet (as even 1-2-3 does!).

ZenLink is about the easiest telecommunications program
available. It includes XMODEM file transfer, up to 9600 baud
data rates, saving to disk files or the printer, and popup menus
for selecting functions easily.

ZenFile, our newest product, is probably the fastest and
easiest-to-use flat-file database on the market. Completely
visual, there are no complex programming-language commands here
-- just fill in screens with what you want to search for. Unlike
most other public domain database programs, there's no wasted
space in database disk files, either, and it uses all of
available memory to operate on your data. Therefore, for most
uses, it employs in-memory operations and search/sort up to 100
times faster than its competition. It comes with a complete
report generator, too, capable of summary calculations and
customized tabluar reports. Of course, it's fully integrated
with the rest of the Zen series, so that ZenWord can mail merge
from a ZenFile address database, for example.

All Zen programs now cut-and-paste among each other, using a
Macintosh/Windows clipboard metaphor, so that you can, for
example, easily cut or copy information from ZenCalc 2, move over
to ZenWord 2 in a couple of keystrokes, and paste it into your
presentation. Each uses color extensively, allowing you to
color-code your files individually. Moreover, each Zen 2 program
allows you to perform any DOS function or run any other program
without exiting the Zen program. All also come with
perfect-bound printed documentation, complete with tutorials,
lots of illustrations, and an index.

The current version of any Zen program still sells for $39.95.

Thanks for playing with our obsolete Version 1 programs.
Thousands of owners are still using them productively every day.
