SHORT DESCRIPTION:
==================

Nonlinear Fitter (Fitter) is an easy-to-use minimization/approximation 
DOS protected mode program. You can use it for finding a minimum of 
the sum of squares of an arbitrary functions of up to five variables 
or, as a particular case, for finding of unknown parameters of an 
arbitrary nonlinear function which must fit the best way (in accordance
with the least squares criterion) to a given data set.
A data set which is being approximated may contain up to 1024 points,
or, what is equivalent, there may be up to 1024 functions, the sum of
squares of which is being minimized. This, however, is available to
REGISTERED USERS ONLY. Unregistered version have a limitation of 30 data
points.
If you are a registered user and you need more than 1024 points -
write me about it and I will think what I can do for you.
Approximating function must be placed in a dynamic-link library.
See online help and the samples for information on how to do this.
The program utilizes two minimization (approximation) methods - 
modified simplex and Levenberg-Marquardt.


SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS:
====================

You must have an AT compatible with 80386 or better processor,
math coprocessor, 2 Mbytes of RAM and DOS version 3.0 or higher.


INSTALLATION:
=============

Unpack the file NFIT095.ZIP into some directory on your hard disk 
(I guess you have done that already since you are reading this file) 
and run FITTER.EXE. See online help for the information on using Fitter.

NOTE. You must have RTM.EXE and DPMI16BI.OVL in the directory from
where the Fitter was started or in the directory, specified in the 
PATH environment variable.

NOTE. You MUST use the -d switch of pkunzip when unpacking SAMPLES.ZIP,
to preserve subdirectories.

When you register and obtain the registration code you can run the
program INSTALL.EXE to write registraton information into FITTER.EXE.
Type
 INSTALL <registration code> <Your Name>
to do this.


SAMPLES:
========

The set of samples (SAMPLES.ZIP) gives a guide on how to create a 
dynamic-link library with the approximating function in various 
programming languages. Run the appropriate batch file to make an 
example DLL. All the samples programme the same function 
a*sin(bx)+c*cos(dx) which lays exactly at data in TESTFIT.DAT 
when a=1, b=2, c=2, d=1.


KNOWN PROBLEMS:
===============

If the Fitter desktop file FITTER.DSK becomes damaged you may get
the runtime error 216 when starting the program. In such a case delete
the desktop file.

Fitter is Shareware. This means that if you intend to use the program 
for more than 30 days of testing, you have to register. There are some
features that are available only to registered users.
You need to register a copy of Fitter for every computer you intend to
install Fitter to.

I will grant the registration of Fitter free for any ex-USSR resident
(registration form required).

The registration fee for Fitter for non ex-USSR residents per computer is:

	1  - 10	 computers		30  US$
	11 - 20	 computers		25  US$
	21 and more			20  US$
	Unlimited site licence		300 US$

Registered users will get a registration key which will allow to
write the registration information into the Fitter program.
See above for information on how to do this.
Registration is valid for any future version of Fitter.
