1. INTRODUCTION

  QuickMenu is a simple menu program. The main purpose of the program is to
Ease running programs on your PC. Although MS WINDOWS is so popular now,
there still is a need for nice, simple and optimal menu programs.

QuickMenu gives the user neat and easy to use environment for creating menu
and running programs.

  Perhaps the most important feature of QuickMenu is the fact that it takes
only 2 KB base memory while running applications from menu.
Another features are: build in screen saver, build in tetris game and context
help.

2. INSTALLATION

  QuickMenu (Shareware) consists of following files:

       qm.com ..............the program you run
       qmenu.ovl............overlay for qm
       qmenu.hlp............context help file
       qmenu.ini............configuration file
       qmenu.dat............ \
       qmenu.dbd............ - data file for menu base
       qmenu.g8............. /
       qmenu.ini............configuration file
       qmenu.txt............this text file
       orderfrm.............order form

To install QuickMenu create directory (for instance QM) and copy all the files
to that directory. It is useful to add the following line to your PATH command
in AUTOEXEC.BAT

    PATH=C:\QM

To run QuickMenu type qm.

NOTE: After you run QuickMenu for the first time two files: qmenu.log and
      qmenu.taf will be created.

3. HARDWARE REQUIREMENTS

Any PC with MS DOS V3.30 and later.

4. HOW TO USE QUICKMENU ?

  Quick menu allows user to create his own program menu which will be stored
in menu data base. After the menu is created user can modify or add the new
items to the menu.

There are two basic items in the program menu. It is:

* run item - a single program (command) or up to 8 different programs (commands)

* group - a new window in menu where you can place next run items or groups

To place a new item in menu press Insert key or click the field "Edit" on the
status bar. A dialog box will appear on the screen in which you will be able to
select either run item or group. If you select group a new dialog box will
appear on the screen. You will be able to establish the group name in this box.
If you select run item a new dialog box will appear in which you will be able
to enter the name under you want your program to appear in the menu and
command(s) for the program(s).

To run a program from menu double click on it or highlight it with menu bar and
press Enter or press the key with number of the menu position.

Example:

Let's assume that you want to put your favorite word processor (f.ex. Word
Perfect) in the menu. You want to have it in a separate group which name is
"Word Processors".

1) First you have to create the "Word Processors" group. After placing the
   menu bar in appropriate position click the "Edit" option on status bar
   (or press Insert).
   Then select "Group" in the GROUP/RUN ITEM dialog box. Right after enter
   "Word Processors" in the GROUP SETUP dialog box. After you confirm the last
   dialog box the new group "Word Processors" will appear on the menu.

2) Now select that group (double click on it's name, or press the position's
   number or highlight it with menu bar and press Enter). A new (empty) menu
   window has appeared on the screen.

3) Click the "Edit" option on the status bar again (or press Insert) and
   select the "Run Item" in the GROUP/RUN ITEM selection dialog box.
   A Run item setup dialog will appear where you can enter the name (i.e. Word
   Perfect) and command (i.e. wp) to run the program. After you confirm
   that dialog box your run item (Word Perfect) will appear in the menu window.

4) Now you are ready to run it.

After the executed from menu program ends the control is passed to QuickMenu.
The menu pops up straight after the application ends.
Sometimes there is a need to "hold" the screen after some applications or
commands ended. Putting the directive %# after the command name in the
Run item setup will hold the screen until you press any key.

5.CONFIGURATION

The qmenu.ini file contains the configuration information for QuickMenu.
It consists of the following keys: SCRSAVER, TITLE, TIME.

SCRSAVER is responsible for screensaver delay. To change that delay
edit the qmenu.ini file and enter appropriate number of minutes (1..9).

TITLE is responsible for the title in the header window. Writing for ex:

   TITLE=Welcome Mike !

will show that 'Welcome Mike !' in the header window. If you do not want
any text write:

   TITLE=NONE

NOTE: This option is not available in the SHAREWARE version.

TIMER is responsible for the mode of timer. You can either use 24 or 12 hour
clock. To choose the appropriate mode write:

   TIME=12
   or
   TIME=24

6. TOOLS

Quick Menu is written in Borland C++ and Turbo Assembler.

7. VERSIONS 1.0, 1.1, 1.3 UPDATE

If you were using one of these versions of QuickMenu and you still want
to keep your old menu of programs just copy qmenu.ovl and qmenu.ini to your
QuickMenu directory.

NOTE: Version 2.0 had a major bug in the shareware release, that has been
      fixed in the 3.0 version
