                    The MAIN MENU Screen

On the main menu screen there is a title on the top line, the
time and date across the bottom, and six numbered choices in
the lower half of the screen. You will also see two lines
across the middle. As you add programs to the menu, these
lines will separate, and the program names will appear.

Press 1 to exit to the operating system. This causes the
program to end, freeing memory that it used.

Press 2 to change the colours that you see on the main menu
screen. These are the same colours that will be used on other
parts of the program, however, they will be less obvious in
these places. Type any number from 1 to 6, and a prompt will
appear in the bottom right hand corner of the screen asking
you for the colour that you want the selection that you have
indicated. Choose from the colours in the left side box,
and press the appropriate number, symbol, or letter. If you
want a part of the menu to flash, simply press f, and the
program will prompt you to enter the number (1-6) of the item
that you want flashing. Press ESC to return to the menu. If
you find that a particular set of colours is pleasing, you
may want to make a spare copy of the file, "COLOURS.SEL", in
case you accidentally delete the file later.

When you're ready to edit the main menu's selections, press 3.
The first time you run this program, there will be a table
with four columns, and five choices across the bottom. The
table will contain two programs. Press 1 to add a program. The
cursor will appear in the first row of the table, where you
must enter the name of the program. This name does not have
to be the DOS filename, but can be a descriptive name. After
you have typed in the name of the program, press enter. Now
you are on the entry column for the program's directory. Type
the DOS directory name and press enter. If the program you're
entering is in your root directory, simply press enter. Next,
you type the filename up to the .EXE, .COM, or .BAT extension.
(Don't type the extension isn't required.) Finally, type a 1
or a 0, under the Parameter column; 1 if you want to add
options to the program when you press the key that runs it.
Add a 0 if the program doesn't use command line options or you
don't want command line options.

Press 2 to delete an entry. You will be prompted to
enter the program's character as displayed. Then press enter.
The screen will clear, and the program list will again be
displayed, but this time with the deleted entry missing. It
is also deleted from the data file, "PROGRAMS.SEL"
Press 3 to sort the entries in alphabetical order by the
title that you gave them. This option will return you to the
main menu screen and save the new list of files.
Press 4 to return to the menu without sorting, or when
you have finished entering or deleting programs.
Press 5 to change an entry. You will be prompted to enter
a character to change. The cursor will then jump to the
appropriate line. You may then edit the entry on each field,
or simply press enter to keep the entries as they appear.

The next selection on the main menu screen is 4. This
selection allows you to run a custom program which will only
be changed when you change menu options. You may want to
use this for programs such as the DOS shell or Windows.

The fifth selection on the main menu screen is the
options screen. This will allow you to change certain
parameters in the program. The first of these is the drive
on which the programs are located. Type the drive letter,
and press enter. Or press enter alone to leave this screen.
Next, type the name of the file to execute when you press
1 on the main screen. (exit to DOS) A file entitled
"RETURN.BAT" has been provided, however you may want to
change this file, or create something new. The next
selection is the file name for the custom program that
you want to run with the main menu's option number 4.
Simply type the filename or pathname for the program. When
you then press 4 on the main menu screen, this program
will run but will not return to the main menu when complete.
Next, enter the length of time you want the computer to wait
before exiting to the PATTERNS.EXE file. When you start the
main menu, a counter keeps track of time, and when it reaches
the setting you made, it will exit (any key at this point
returns you to the menu). There is a safety feature included
so that you Don't find yourself with a zero-minute time limit,
causing you to be locked out of the main menu. Next comes the
name of the file that is executed when the number 1 is pressed
on the main menu screen (exit to DOS). This may be anything,
however, a batch file has been included which gives you a
clear screen, and returns you to the root directory of your
disk. Press Esc at any time in the MENU OPTIONS screen to
return to the main menu without changing any options.

Finally, the sixth option on the main menu screen, is
this help program. Just press 6 for help.
