About BigBin...

BigBin enhances the Windows 95 Recycle Bin so that files deleted
from within DOS boxes are protected along with those deleted
through Explorer.

USAGE:

To install BigBin, copy the program files, Bigbin.exe and
Functrap.vxd to a subdirectory on your hard drive. You can also
add a shortcut for BigBin.exe to your Startup group so it's
loaded automatically each time you start Windows 95.

When you execute BigBin, it installs itself on the system tray
where it sits quietly rerouting file deletions. To exit BigBin
and revert back to the normal behavior for DOS-based deletions,
right-click on the BigBin tray icon and select Exit Program
from the menu.

In general, BigBin uses whatever properties you've set in the
Recycle Bin's Properties dialog, which you access by right-
clicking on the Recycle Bin and selecting Properties. Here
you'll see a check box that controls whether to display a
delete confirmation dialog, along with controls to bypass
the Recycle Bin entirely (immediate removal on delete), and
set the maximum percentage of disk space that the Recycle
Bin can use. You set the latter two options globally, or
separately for each drive.

By default, BigBin does not prompt you for confirmation
of deletions from DOS boxes, regardless of your settings
in the Recycle Bin's Properties page. This is because the
confirmations can be intrusive. For example, if you're
using the DOS-based EDIT utility, a delete confirmation
will be generated each time you save a file. Also, the
confirmation dialog is graphical, so if you're in a full
screen DOS session Windows will switch you out to
present the dialog.

If you are running in a windowed DOS session, the
confirmation is less intrusive. You can turn on DOS
delete confirmations by using the "R" switch to instruct
BigBin to use the Recycle Bin confirmation setting.
Invoke BigBin with the "R" command line parameter
as follows:

           BigBin R

If you have configured the Recycle Bin to confirm
deletions and you use the "R" switch, deletions from
DOS boxes will be confirmed in addition to deletions
from Explorer.

Note: The file BB_SRC.ZIP contained in BIGBIN.ZIP is the source
code for BigBin. This will only be of interest to you if you are
a programmer, and can be discarded if you choose.

Revision History:

Version 1.0 - Initial release

Version 1.1 - This update corrects a problem with
DEL *.* that caused child directories and their
contents to be moved to the Recycle Bin along with
the directory's files.

Support for BigBin:
Support for the free utilities offered by
PC Magazine can be obtained electronically
in the discussion area of PC Magazine's
Web site. Go to the
URL http://www.pcmag.com/discuss.htm/ and
select the Utilities area. You can also
access the Utilities discussion area from
the utility's download page. The authors of
current utilities generally monitor the
discussion area every day. You may find an
answer to your question simply by reading
the messages previously posted. If the
author is not available and you have a
question that the sysops can't answer,
the editor of the Utilities column, who
also checks the area each day, will
contact the author for you.
