Welcome to WaverlyStreet's "QuickRef Project Assistant" 3.01
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
QuickRef is a record keeping and reporting tool which allows you to quickly
and accurately keep track of the time and money you invest in your work.

QuickRef is for anyone who needs to know what they have done over time; from
the smallest sole proprietor or hobbyist to a project manager in the largest
corporation. If you are a low-budget user you will find QuickRef to be the
easiest and cheapest alternative available. If you are a corporate user (even
those whose organization may have a whole department devoted to tracking
projects) you will soon appreciate the advantage of tracking your work by
yourself (read: covering your butt!).

QuickRef records time and money, shows "to do" items, and helps you keep
written notes on each project. With version 3, you may also record a budget
figure, and the reporting sections will tell you how you are doing in relation
to the budget. You can use it to track either an individual's activity, or
record items for any number of people. QuickRef will optionally track the cost
of time, based on worker pay rates you supply.

QuickRef can instantly print reports including:

- "Snapshots" on one particular project, showing the total time and money
invested (broken down as "actual" and "estimated remaining"), "to-do" items,
plus project notes to date. If you provide a budget figure, the Snapshot
will also tell you how you are doing in relation to the budget. Time records
may also be broken down by worker.

- Comparative reports showing project time and money in relation to selected
other projects currently underway or finished.

- "To-Do" lists, showing project header information and all "to-do" items.

- Project lists, including note and status fields.

Permanently archive records on closed projects, maintaining instant access for
future reference. Mirror records on an office network so that several users
may share information.

Although written specifically to assist in construction project management,
QuickRef can be used in any field where tracking costs is important.

QuickRef does not require that you conform to a new project numbering scheme.
It will work with any system where the alpha-numeric "project number" does not
exceed eight characters in length. If your numbering scheme is well
structured, the QuickRef report section can be easily tailored to pick only
certain types of projects, according to the placement of project number
characters. (ie: report on all projects where the "n"th character is "x", or
where the first two characters are "yz", etc.) The program also works equally
well with completely unstructured project identifications.

New in version 3.01
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Added a budget field to the project "header" information. If the project has
an established budget, you can now enter that in and the report sections will
let you know how you are doing in relation to the budget.

Both Comparison and Snapshot report formats have been completely re-done for
much greater clarity and "readability", and to take advantage of the budget
feature. Time and money totals are now broken down into "actual" and
"estimated remaining", so that someone unfamiliar with the project can
understand the report much better.

Added a text search capability to the internal file browser.

Fixed small bug - screen format problem with money mode "to-do" items.

Added command line switch (+M) to start the program in "money mode" rather
than the default "time mode".

Made it so that when a project number is revised (<F3> at the project
selection screen) the project's note file is also renamed, if one exists.

Added an option to also purge a project's note file when sending old records
to "partial archive". These archived notes are included in current project
"snapshots" if the archived records are too.

Fixed start-up "Illegal function call" problem which turned up on some systems
running some non-US DOS configurations.

Fixed "year 2000"-related data file sorting problem.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Other recent changes (version 2.1 and on)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Added registration code algorithm and made straight nagware. No restrictions
on program operation, no need to reinstall the program after registering.

Fixed bug where incorrect ending date was stated in a Snapshot report
containing both time and money records from both current and archive data.

Made it so that in a Snapshot report you may include your choice of time
and/or money line items, rather than just all or none.

Made it so that when you select "all" projects in reports, a list of all are
displayed - just like with any other selection option. This way, you may
select all, then pick off only the few you didn't want included.

Added search function to the single project screen.

Added the subdivision tag to the screen display of line items, and also a
feature where subdivision names can be quickly seen (for reference) from the
single project screen.

Added option to show subdivision breakdowns in snapshot reports.

Added a warning box to indicate that a mirror update has failed - in case you
aren't logged on to your network.

Enhanced network mirror privacy of worker pay rate information that might be
maintained by a supervisor running the program in multi-worker mode.

Added feature where all data files may be re-sorted and the network mirror
updated in one un-attended operation.

Made "Yes" the default choice on updating the mirror at program shut-down.

Fixed bug in date input routine where only the current year could be used for
new and revised entry dates.

Fixed problem with multi-user time breakdown, where only those individuals
with three-character initials were being included.

Registration
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
QuickRef is not free; it is just distributed as unrestricted shareware. To
encourage future program development, please register QuickRef. In exchange, I
will send you a working registration code to enter at the opening screen. Once
a valid code is entered, the display of the opening screen will be permanently
"turned off", and printed output will no longer include that annoying
reminder. Please see the order form (order.txt) for registration options.

Registration costs only $35 (US) (real cheap), and is greatly appreciated!
Your registration code will work on all subsequent versions of QuickRef too.
Check back at the web site from time to time to see if I've put out a new
version.
