Upgrading Notes:

IF YOU ARE UPGRADING FROM AN EARLIER VERSION OF QUICKREF, PLEASE READ THE
FOLLOWING THROUGHLY!! FAILURE TO FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS COULD RESULT IN
DATA LOSS!!!

QuickRef version 3 incorporates a couple of significant *structural* changes
from earlier versions, including a new DATA TYPE for the project header
file(s), and new "homes" for the subdivision tag files. All of your old data
is safe, and will carry over to the new version, but you do need to take care
of a few special items to make the upgrade go smoothly.

Install the new version with either the DOS installer (DOS_INST.EXE) or the
Windows installer (SETUP.EXE), and then run QuickRef. You should get an error
message, indicating that your PROJECT.DAT files are of the old type, and they
need to be converted. This is normal and expected! Press <ENTER>. QuickRef
will shell to the data conversion utility, 223_PROJ.EXE. Follow the
instructions on screen. If all goes well, the converter will run and
terminate, and then QuickRef 3 will terminate as well. Start QuickRef over
again. This time, you should not get the error message. Press the right arrow
key and check to see that the projects are listed correctly. Go back to the
main screen and enter the archive directory (<A>). Check there as well to see
that the projects are being listed correctly. Once you are satisfied that
everything is working properly, you may delete the conversion utility,
223_PROJ.EXE from the main QUICKREF directory.

The time and money subdivision files are relocated. Formerly, identical
copies of these files, TIME.SDV and MONEY.SDV were kept in the CURRENT and
ARCHIVE directories. With version 3, only one set of these are kept, and they
are located in the main QUICKREF directory. Before upgrading, please print the
subdivision information on paper and also copy the two .SDV files from either
the CURRENT or ARCHIVE directory to the QUICKREF directory. If following the
new installation your subdivision information seems to be lost, make sure you
copied the files, or if all else fails, re-type the information from the
printed copy you made.
