- WHAT IS MIDGET II?

Midget II is a music program for people who like to compose music without
using a score-based interface (ie: one where you place notes on a music
score, using a mouse). I originally developed it because I had purchased a
new sound card, which had extra MIDI voices on it, and I needed a piece of
software that supported it - and I also needed a piece of software that
used MIDI, without the hassle of point-and-click or MIDI keyboard input.

What's different? The interface allows the composer to hear notes as they are
entered, and review them if necessary. With most MIDI programs, the user has
to enter data on to an image of a music manuscript. This takes considerable
skill and time to get it to sound as you want it to. It has been my
experience that while errors are corrected in the music, my inspiration has
to be ignored. Midget allows the composer to enter a note, instantly change
it if necessary, and continue, in a fraction of the time this operation would
take with common MIDI file editors.

- INSTALLATION

To install Midget II, simply run INSTALL.EXE in DOS or Windows 95/98/ME. You
cannot install or run Midget II while Windows 3.1 or 2000 is running. I am
working on a 32-bit Windows version of Midget at the moment - this will be
released sometime in 2001.

- DISTRIBUTION

The DOS-based releases of Midget are FREEWARE. You may freely distribute this
software, provided that you make NO charge for it and that it is distributed
in its original package (INSTALL.EXE).

If you have any major distribution plans, I'd like to know. What you do with
your music is up to you - there are no special agreements involved, no
royalties, etc.
