                             Student Records System
This is the shareware version of this program and can be distributed
freely.

SRS is a database program which can be used in school sites to track
student information including address, phone #, DOB, sex, parent / guardian
names & occupations, two emergency contacts with phone #s, and last school
attended. Up to six teacher names, classroom #s and subjects per student in
up to six periods per day. Mailing addreses can be printed on standard 3 1/8
inch X 15/16 inch labels by individual student, classroom, grade level, or
all students.

SRS runs under DOS and requires a hard drive to store the data. All
student information is encrypted on the disk and the program is password
protected in order to ensure confidentiality.

The non-shareware version of SRS includes options not available on the
shareware version. It tracks not only general registration information, but
can record permanent records (such as yearly achievement tests) which cannot
be deleted. In addition, the registered version can export information to
diskette or import from diskette for easy transmittal of records to / from
another school. An option in the program will allow the records to be printed
in standrd ASCII text in the event that the receiving location does not have
the SRS program. Also, the password and printer port in the registered version
can be changed. And the registered version comes with a detailed, printed
instruction manual.

This version of the program can be run on diskette, but the space
available for student records will be severly limited. Therefore, it is
recommended that SRS be installed on a hard drive. In order to do this, enter
the following commands from the DOS prompt:

C: (switch to the hard drive)
MD\SRS (makes a directory)
CD\SRS (switch to the directory)
COPY A:*.* (copy all files from the A drive diskette)

THE ABOVE PROCEDURE ASSUMES YOU HAVE AN UNZIPPED PROGRAM ON A DISKETTE IN
THE A: DRIVE AND ARE COPYING TO THE C: DRIVE. IF YOUR DRIVES HAVE DIFFERENT
LETTER IDS, YOU MUST REPLACE THE ABOVE LETTERS FOR YOURE (E.G. IF YOUR HARD
DRIVE IS D:, REPLACE ALL OF THE C:'S ABOVE WITH D:)

If you wish to unzip the distribution file from the A: drive to the C: drive,
enter the following:

C: (switch to the hard drive)
MD\SRS (makes a directory)
PKUNZIP A:SRS15.ZIP C:\SRS (unzips the file and puts it on the C: drive)

In order to start the program simply type SRSMEN15 at the DOS prompt and
press ENTER (or you may run it from Windows Program Manager or double click on
SRSMEN15.EXE in Windows File Manager.) You will be presented with an opening
credit screen and inevitable shareware request to register. Eventually, you
will be able to press any key to go on. You will then be asked for the
required password. In the shareware version, the password is set to SRS15 (all
upper case) and cannot be changed.

For detailed instructions on how to navigate the menus, please refer to
the README.EXE file. Enter README from the DOS prompt and you can browse the
manual or print it (the program assumes your printer is on LPT1:. If yours
is on a different port you will not be able to print from the program.)

In order to obtain the registered version send a check or money order
(no credit cards or purchase orders) for $35.00 to:

                            William Jimerson
                            720 Margo Drive
                            Simi Valley, CA 93065

There is also an add-on module for registered users which will print
wallet sized cards with the student's personal data and room for a
fingerprint and photo. Once laminated, this is an invaluable aid in the
unfortunate event of a child's disappearance. The Safe Child ID Program is
available for an additional $15.00. Please note that this requires an Epson
LQ type printer or a printer which can emulate one.
