1. Overview

If you spend a lot of time on the Internet, or make international telephone calls, then you will appreciate the need for this little application as you often need to know the time in different parts of the world.

"World Clock" displays local time as well as two international times of your choice, all three of which can be very easily changed, with virtually instant readout. If two international times are not enough, multiple instances of "World Clock" can be started to provide as many as you like.
The display can now be reduced to title bar size, so as not to clutter your desktop.

An easy method of setting the system clock and date is also provided, and the current date is displayed in the title bar.
There is also an alarm facility, which can run in the background if required.

The program remembers your settings when you exit, and resumes where you left off.

=================================

2. Setting up "World Clock"

This program requires that the file "vbrun300.dll" is somewhere in your windows directory.
This file is available from virtually any shareware distributor.

"World Clock" consists of four files, just put them all in the same directory:

  wrldclk.exe- the executable

  readme.txt- this file

wrldclk.dat- containing World Clocks' time zone information.

spin.vbx- can go in windows\system if you prefer. (You may already have it)

Once you have copied the files to the right places, choose "New" from the file menu in Program Manager, select "Program Item" and then find "wrldclk.exe" from the "browse" button. Click OK and the Icon will appear in the selected group. Double click the Icon to start "World Clock"
Alternatively, doubleclick the file "wrldclk.exe" in File Manager.

One other file "wrldclk.ini" will be created in your windows directory the first time that the program runs.

===============================================
Running the program for the first time:

On startup for the first time, there will be no countries displayed, and there are several things you must do before "World Clock" will work properly:

1.Set the system clock to the correct time in your area. You have probably already done this, but if not: Click on "Set Zone" followed by "Set Time", enter the correct time and click OK.
The clock is now set.

2.Tell "World Clock" what time zone you are in.
"World Clock" uses GMT as its' reference, and therefore must know the difference between your local time and GMT to perform its' calculations.
To do this, still in "Set Zones", select option "Home", scroll down the list and select your area.
If your country is using daylight savings now, select the number of hours that your clock has been changed from the drop-down box.
Click OK. If you changed the daylight savings value, then "World Clock" may ask whether you would like to change the system clock. Answer "No".

Your local time is now set. When you exit the program the settings are remembered and you will not need to set them again.

3.Set the two time zones as required and click OK, these settings will also be remembered.

If you have any serious problems setting up "World Clock", you can eMail me at hddw24@pavilion.co.uk or phone (+44) 01963 351470 (7pm - 10pm GMT)

3. Controls

The controls are self explanatory, but here goes anyway:

-

"On Top" button. Clicking "On Top" forces "World Clock" to stay on top of all other windows. Click it again to turn the function off.

-

"Alarm Set" - Clicking this button causes "World Clock" to prompt you for an alarm time, simply use the up/down arrows to set the time that you want the alarm to go off, and click OK. (Alarm works in local time only)
"World Clock" will notify you when the set time is reached, even if it is running in the background, or minimised.

-

"Close" - Saves the settings that you have made and then closes the program.

-

"Help" - Invokes the quick guide screen and gives access to this file.

-

The Down Arrow picture turns the display into a small bar.
Clicking on the red area at the bottom of this bar gives access to the alarm setting facility, the white area returns the display to normal size, while the blue area invokes the "Set Zone" window. The display always remains "On Top" and can be dragged around by the top display area.

-

"Set Zone" - Allows you to set the displayed times to the required zones:
=================================
Select "Zone 1" or "Zone 2" to and select an area from the list to change the international displays.
When the selections are right, click OK to close the "Set Zones" window. (Doubleclicking on a selection will also change the setting and close the window)

-

"Cancel" closes the "Set Zones" window without making any changes.

-

"Set System Clock" - Allows you to sets the current system time and date.

-

"Add Zone" allows you to add to the current list of zones.
Note that World Clock will always find the first entry if a zone is duplicated.
Therfore, if you want to change a zone that is already listed for some reason, open the file "wrldclk.dat" with a text editor and change it manually.
Also, the file is updated instantly when you click "Add zone", so make sure you're information is correct before doing so. You will have to change the file manually if you make a mistake.

-

Daylight Savings - Once you have set the clock correctly as above, changing your country's Daylight Savings time is simple. Select the required number of hours backwards or forwards from the list, and click OK. World Clock will ask if you want it to change the system clock automatically. Answer "yes".
More care is required with the other two zones however. Change these only if you know that the other country is using daylight savings, and that you will remember to turn the difference off if you change zones later.
A yellow dot appears next to the adjusted time in the main window to indicate that you have selected Daylight Savings for that zone.

Note: I realise that this is something of a drawback, but I am working on it, and I hope to have enough information available to let the program automatically make the changes in the next version.

-

Tip - When changing settings, it's a good idea to be able to see both windows at the same time, then you can flick through the list and see instantly the times around the world.
