PURPOSE OF THE PROGRAM:
The MailUtil program is for use by administrators of MSmail version 3.x postoffices. Although it has only been tested with a version 3.2 postoffice, it should be possible to use it with other versions, but no guarantee of this can be given.

Five separate utilities are provided in one program:

"User List > Text File" generates a list of all local users giving details of their mailbag number, MMF file size and the number of e-mails waiting for them.

"Mailbag > Text File" identifies the owner of any mailbag and creates a list of all e-mails referenced within it.

"Network > Text File" generates a complete list of all the external postoffices known to the local postoffice.

"Stranded Mail Report" searches for e-mails that are still present on the postoffice but are not referenced in any mailbag.

"SMTP Addresses > Text File" produces a text file containing a list of all SMTP addresses registered with the postoffice.

Please see the help file provided for more details.

DISTRIBUTION:
If you wish to pass this program on, please make sure it is complete. The preferred way to distribute MailUtil is by passing on the ZIP file 'MUtil101.zip'.

Otherwise the minimum you should pass on is the following:

	MailUtil.exe
	MailUtil.hlp
	ReadMe.txt (this file)
	Order.txt

Other files required to run the program (but which may already be present on the target machine) are:

	VBrun300.dll
	cmdialog.vbx

UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES SHOULD YOU CLAIM A FEE BEYOND ANY EXPENSES YOU HAVE INCURRED (e.g. The cost of a disc, postage, etc.). I alone can grant a licence to use the program beyond the initial 30 day trial period.

INSTALLATION:
Simply extract all the files from 'MUtil101.zip' into a directory of your choice. You will need a copy of VBrun300.dll either in your 'Windows/system' directory or in the MailUtil program directory. The former location is better as other Visual Basic V3.0 programs can then share the single copy. The same applies to cmdialog.vbx, although included in the zip file this can be moved to your 'Windows/system' directory if preferred; just check that you are not replacing a more recent version!

UN-INSTALL:
MailUtil makes no changes to your system files. To remove MailUtil all that needs to be done is to delete the program directory and all its contents. Should you have chosen to keep VBrun300.dll and cmdialog.vbx in your 'Windows/system' directory you may choose to delete these as well, BUT ONLY IF YOU ARE SURE THEY ARE NOT USED BY ANYTHING ELSE.

LICENCE:
MailUtil is Shareware. You are granted a licence to use MailUtil, free of charge, for a 30 day trial period after the first time you run the program. After that time has elapsed, if you wish to continue using it, you must register your copy with me as described in 'Order.txt'. 60 days after you first run the program or first access a postoffice you will be denied access to the program or postoffice.

Upon registration you will be granted a non-transferable licence to use MailUtil for an indefinite period. You may make as many copies of the program as you wish, but you must NOT enter the licence details, provided upon registration, into more copies than you have licences. Thus a single postoffice/multi-user licence is for a shared copy installed on the network where the postoffice is located. A single user/multi-postoffice licence is for installation on the user's machine.

WARRANTY/DISCLAIMER:
I hereby warrant MailUtil fit for the purpose described in this file or the help file, and that it will operate in accordance with the instructions given, subject to the known problems and limitations described in this file.

This program only reads data from your postoffice; it does not alter any of the files on your postoffice. You have the ultimate responsibility for any decision to delete files or e-mails by whatever means you choose to use. Whilst I have made certain suggestions in the help file, you act on these suggestions entirely at your own risk.

Should any fault be found with MailUtil, I will undertake to supply updated versions to those reporting the fault only if the cure for the fault lies within my power, e.g. I accept no obligation to cure a fault If the fault is the result of the particular compiler or other development component I have used.

Under all circumstances my liability shall be limited to the refund of the licence fee paid to me.

The writing of this program has been a personal activity and my employer accepts no liability or reward in connection with this program.

KNOWN PROBLEMS & LIMITATIONS:
MailUtil is a 16bit application written for Windows 3.x and and has been tested under Windows 95, 98, Me and 2000. However, this leads to some limitations when using MailUtil with 32-bit versions of Windows:

1) MailUtil only supports short file and directory names of the 8.3 format.

That is all that I have discovered (and been unable to alter) so far. If any of you discover any other problems or limitations or just have suggestions for improvements please let me know and I will do my best to cure or incorporate them.

YEAR 2000 COMPLIENCE:
I have tested the program with various combinations of dates before and after the change of millennium and I have not discovered any problems. All dates are reported with a four digit year and all date calculations have been seen to work across a simulated change of millennium. These tests were performed using a PC that is fully compliant and a fully compliant version of Windows 95. It is my belief, based on the Visual Basic documentation, that it will retain this compliance when run using Windows 3.x, provided that the PC on which it is used allows dates beyond the millennium to be set.
