                    <BASIC OPERATING PROCEDURES>

  i) Just follow the on screen prompts.

ii) No matter where you are in the program,
You can press <esc> to back up 1 step.
PRESS <CTRL X> TO RETURN TO MAIN MENU FROM ANYWHERE

iii) There are times when it will say, "Press any key",
Any key except <esc> will cause you to continue.

iv) When it prompts you to enter a value, type in the value, and press ENTER.

  v) All the options and menu's only require you to press the indicated letter
Or number. Only press the indicated letter or number and that option will
Be implemented. Do Not press ENTER after pressing the option letter
     Or number.

vi) When entering Song lengths, you need to enter them as Minutes.seconds,
not as Minutes:seconds. IE: 4 minutes 23 sec would be 4.23.
I set it up this way because it is easier and faster
      to enter them that way.

                 BASIC OPERATING PROCEDURES (continued...)

vii) If you are entering a seconds value that is below 10, you will need
to enter a zero before the seconds.
IE: 3 minutes 5 sec. would be 3.05.
If you entered it as 3.5 the program would think it is 3:50
                                               (3 minutes, 50 sec).

note: All time values will be displayed as minutes.seconds.

viii) You cannot enter a song length longer than 74 minutes,
because CD's can only hold 74 min of music.
A maximum of 30 songs are allowed per CD.
A maximum of 50 characters per field is allowed.

ix) Anything you type in can be typed in upper or lower case, it doesn't
Matter. All entry's are automatically converted to upper case
before being processed. An entry of BoStoN is the same as BOSTON.
      It doesn't matter.

                            <RECORDING LIST>

I will explain the Recording list now, so you don't wonder what
I am talking about later when I mention it.

The Recording list is a list of songs from various CD's that you can
put together for the purpose of making a recording.

A maximum of 30 songs can be added to the recording list.

After your recording list is complete, you can calculate which
combination of songs will fit perfectly on a tape.

Press 'A' again to add more songs.

If the CD has more than 18 songs, they will all be displayed side by side
Some of the songs may be cut short, so there will be a 6th option of:

Just enter the song # and the complete, uncut song will be displayed.

Simply Type in each item prompted for, hitting ENTER after each.
(50 characters max. in any field)

If you type in an incorrect value, hit <esc> and you can re-enter it.

When you get to point where you enter the amount of songs on the CD,
remember that there are 30 song maximum allowed.

When entering song lengths, enter them as minutes.seconds,
not minutes:seconds, I did it this way because it's easier.

If at any time you enter an incorrect value, simply press <esc>
and you will be returned to the previous entry.

If you entered an incorrect value many steps back, press <esc> back to it,
change it, and hit ENTER over the values that are to remain the same.

                 3) ENTER NEW CD's (continued...)

If you enter an incorrect value and have not pressed ENTER,
simply press <esc> and you can enter it again.
DO NOT BACKSPACE OVER AN INCORRECT ENTRY, This may seem to work fine,
but it doesn't actually store the value you would expect it to,
(Backspacing would cause the printouts to be messed up)
This program is not a text editor, it cannot edit the text correctly.
so you need to retype it.

After you have entered all the items on the CD, you will be asked
if it is OK, check the display and make sure it is right, if not,
press 'N'. The program will then take you through all the steps of

The program would retrieve all the CD's with artists beginning in pi.

The program is not case sensitive, so you can type it in upper or
lower case, and it won't matter.

After the program has retrieved the matching CD's, you will be placed

               6) FIND SONGS WITHIN A RANGE OF LENGTHS

This is a handy feature if you need a song of an exact length to fill
in a spot at the end of a recording.

Select "6" at the Main Menu and you will be prompted to enter the lower
and upper limits for the song lengths you are searching for.

Simply enter the lower and upper limits as Minutes.seconds and the
program will return all the songs from any CD's that are within the limits
 you typed in.

After the program has retrieved the matching CD's, you will be placed
at a view matches screen, which is exactly the same as the "View all Titles"
screen. Just type in the CD number for options, 'P' to print <esc> to back up,

Enter "7" at the Main Menu and you will be prompted to enter a search
string for the song. Enter the entire song name or just type in the first
few characters. The program will return all the CD titles that have
 songs matching your search string.

After the program has retrieved the matching CD's, you will be placed
at a view matches screen, which is exactly the same as the "View all Titles"
screen. Just type in the CD number for options, "P" to print <esc> to back up,
CTRL X to exit to main menu.

Note: 100 matches is the maximum available matches.

**MAIN MENU** 8) VIEW RECORDING LIST

Select "8" from the Main Menu to view your recording list. You will
  then have the following options:
<P> print, <S> save, <R> remove songs from this list
or <C> Calculate which combination of songs will fit perfectly on a tape.

Press "P" to print your recording list.

Press "S" to save your recording list to disk.
It will be saved to a file named "ffile"

Press "R" to remove songs from your recording list, after pressing R simply
enter the number of the song to remove. Press <esc> to return to previous.

The "C" option is for finding a combination of you favorite songs
that will fit perfectly on a side of a tape.
(No more long gaps at the end of a tape or no more cut off songs)

If you press "C" there will be a brief delay as the program calculates
how much time the entire calculation will take, it will then display the
amount of time it will take for the calculation. If the time is too long,
you could remove some of the songs from your recording list.
Every song removed cuts the calculation time in half.

                    8) VIEW RECORDING LIST (continued...)

You will then be prompted to enter lower and upper limits, and the gap.
The lower and upper limits would be the length of tape you wish to record
onto. The gap is the gap generally placed between songs when you record.
Remember, tapes have 2 sides. A 90 minute tape is 46:20 per side
(I timed it) so if you only record 45 minutes per side, you will have a
1:20 gap at the end. I don't know what the length per side of other tapes
is, you will have to check it out.

After entering the values, you will be asked if the values you
entered are OK, if not, press "N", and you can re enter them.
The program will calculate which combinations, if any, add up to
between your lower and upper limits. If you have any matches,
they will be displayed. Remember, the gap is added between each
song, so the total length displayed includes the gaps.
Press any key to see next match, press <esc> to see the previous
match. Press <P> to print displayed match.
Press CTRL X at any time to exit.
(It displays this option at the top right)

Note: 100 matches is the maximum available matches.

                         ****MAIN MENU****

                9) LOAD RECORDING LIST FROM DISK

If you have previously saved a recording list, you will be able to
retrieve it by selecting option "9" from the Main Menu.

When you select "9" from the Main Menu, your saved recording list
will be retrieved, and you will be placed in the "View Recording List"
screen, where you will have all the options described above.
