          Screen saver features
There are three sections to the screen saver built into this program.
Stroke, Pull, and Push mix up the screen colors in different and interesting
ways. All of the savers leave trailing mixed up screen colors as they work.
They all have several controls that you can adjust. Stroke makes semi-
transparent stokes on the screen. Pull takes an area of the screen and
compresses it horizontally and vertically. Push takes an area of the screen
and expands it horizontally and vertically.

Each of the sections will pick a screen location at random and smear the image
in that screen area in its own particular way. The saver then picks another
area and repeats the process. For simplicity we call the drawing session at
each area a swipe. Each swipe takes many steps. Delays can be added to each
step or to each swipe. If you have enabled more than one of the savers, they
will be chosen at random over various time periods.

          Test window
Just click the Test button and a test window will show the effect of the
current settings. There is no need to save the settings, exit setup, then
click the windows preview button. This way you will be quite sure of your
settings before changing the existing ones. The test window shows a
miniature of your desktop although the screen saver drawing is normal
size. It will give you a very good idea of how it will perform on the
            full desktop.

          Set Password Button:
setting password: If you have set a password for another screen saver,
this screen saver will use the same password. To change the current
password you must type the current password in the OLD PASSWORD box
first. Type the new password in the NEW PASSWORD box the retype the
same new password in the last box. If the passwords do not match, the
new password will not be set.
turning off: You may turn off password protection to this screen saver
by pressing the SET PASSWORD button and then selecting NO in the dialog
box that pops up. This will affect this screen saver only. Other savers
that use password protection will remain set the way that they were. To
turn them off you must use the setup controls written for them.

          SLIDERS
Color Intensity Maximum: Sets the maximum color brightness level used when
adding colors. Colors are chosen at random by the saver.
Color Intensity Minimum: Sets the minimum color brightness level used when
adding colors. Colors are chosen at random by the saver.
Color Transparency: Sets the transparency level used when adding colors.
Drawing Step Delay: If you currently use a supercomputer or just like a
relaxing show you may add a delay to the drawing routine. This delay
slows down the display between steps in a drawing Stroke, Pull, or Push.
Stroke Delay: This control will delay the start of a new Stroke, Pull, or
Push after the previous one completes.
Color Add Time: Sets the time between period of adding color. Add color
time and no color add time are equal.
Maximum Drawing Transparency: Sets the level for the most transparent
drawing, which is always at the end of the stroke or other effect.
Drawing always begins near minimum transparency and graduates to maximum.
You will notice some variation in the display of transparency based on the
colors involved and other factors. This should produce an effect t that is
pleasing to the eye. Minimum Drawing Transparency: Sets the level for the
least transparent drawing, which is always at the beginning of the stroke
            or other effect.

          CHECK BOXES
Stroke: Checked it will run Stroke unchecked it will not.
Pull: Checked it will run pull unchecked it will not.
Push: Checked it will run push unchecked it will not.
Keep Desktop: Checked it will grab graphics from the original desktop image
to put on the screen. Unchecked it will work with the existing screen
image. Checking this option will use more system memory while the screen
saver runs. See the user tips below.
Smudge Colors: Checked it will tend to mix screen colors more smoothly.
Add Colors: Checked it will add colors from time to time based on the add
            colors intensity and delay controls.

Minimum Horizontal Step: Controls the minimum horizontal step or movement
that the program can apply between drawing steps.
Maximum Vertical Step: Controls the maximum vertical step or movement that
the program can apply between drawing steps.
Minimum Vertical Step: Controls the minimum vertical step or movement that
the program can apply between drawing steps.
Maximum Stroke Length: Controls the maximum length for each stroke swipe.
Minimum Stroke Length: Controls the minimum length for each stroke swipe.
Randomness: This affects how often the stroke direction can change. Since it
is based on time, longer stroke lengths or strokes that draw more slowly
will be affected more than shorter quicker ones.
Linearity: Higher settings tend to produce straighter strokes while lower
values produce more curvature in the stroke. The effect of this control
is limited be the horizontal and vertical step ranges that are set. If
there is more range, you will see greater curvature at a given linearity
            setting.

          Shareware concept
Shareware is an alternative distribution method to retail sales. Shareware
allows you to evaluate software before purchase. It is much like test
driving a car. If you don't like the car, you don't buy it. On the other
hand if you don't buy it, you can't keep it! On the publisher side of the
equation, shareware is a wide distribution channel. Since we aren't a
national chain or a giant corporation, we get access at a reasonable cost.

          Evaluation period
This product is distributed as shareware. You may use it for the purpose
of purchase evaluation for 30 days. After 30 days of evaluation any
product still in use must be registered for the use to be legal. Please
register this product. Registered users can be kept informed about updated
products, new releases, and any changes here at PIXEL-pi.

          Registration
The registration of this product will bring the user benefits in addition to legal use of the
software. Email upgrade and new product news. You may have obtained an older version of
the program. You can step up to the next available standard upgrade of this software when
released. There is no additional charge for your first upgrade.

          System Recommendations
This program has been successfully tested on systems down to 486SX 33MHz
            with 4Mb RAM (with a desksize of 640x480 and 256 colors). A 486DX2 66MHz
processor or faster is recommended to increase the operating speed. The
program runs under Windows95, Windows98, WindowsNT, and Windows3.1. If you
have a large desktop area (eg. 1024 x 768) we additionally recommend having
more than 4Mb of system RAM.

Just in case something goes bump
In the rare event that you experience problems running the program the best
course of action is to reinstall the program using the original
installation disk or downloaded file. If the problem seems to be related to
the INI settings file, you may delete STROKES.INI. Then run the settings
dialog. The settings dialog will write a new default .INI and inform you
            that it was written.

If install won't run, it is probably corrupted and should be replaced.
Please contact the shareware distributor about a replacement.

Other program issues should be brought straight to PIXEL-pi.
In order to properly assist you we will need to know, computer make &
model, windows version, installed memory, what other programs were
running, network information if any, the exact problem you experienced
with the software. If the problem persists, and you cannot use the program
your registration fee will be returned.

          Install
The installation is nearly automatic. Select Install and click continue to
begin the installation. The installer will suggest C:\STROKES as an
installation directory. Only documentation and setup files, if any, will
be copied there. The screen saver and its INI file will be copied to the
windows directory. Strokes will be set as the current screen saver.
Your other system settings will not be changed.

          Uninstall
To uninstall insert the setup disk and run setup.exe. Select uninstall and
then click continue. Uninstall will remove all files and directories that
were put on your system at installation. Uninstall will only remove files
that it copied at install time. If other files are copied into the install
directory they will not be deleted and then setup will be unable to remove
the directory. If STROKES.INI is damaged, setup cannot uninstall. If this
is the case, run setup and install in the same directory as your first
installation. Then, after reinstalling, run setup to uninstall. It will
have rewritten the install information in the INI file so that it can run.

          User tips
          Saving memory:
Un-check draw with desktop. The draw with desktop option forces the screen
saver to keep a copy of your desktop in memory. This can expend several
megabytes of system memory. Of course all images are freed from memory
when the screen saver closes. Under very low memory conditions (compared
to your desktop requirements) the screen saver will not keep the desk image
in memory even if that option is selected. It does this so that it can
avoid a possible out of memory condition. Switch to a smaller desktop area.
This will save memory for all of your programs.
Speeding up screen saver: turn off smudge. Using the smudge option forces
the saver to do more image handling slowing down program operation.
Turn off add colors: the adding colors option forces the saver to do more
image handling slowing down program operation.
Increase the horizontal and vertical step values. Drawing will take fewer
steps to cover a given area of the screen.
Decrease the horizontal and vertical size controls. Larger objects take
longer to draw. This is particularly true for the Push option.

          256 Color mode users:
When running in 256 color mode you will notice that some colors shift when
the screen saver begins and that the display is without great depth. Since
the detail of computer displays lies in color variations and the program is
restricted to displaying 256 colors much detail is lost. If you have the
memory to spare you might try a 16 bit or higher screen mode. The display
            might be worth it.
