Overview of Multi-user Configuration Manager

ADMINISTRATOR NOTE:
The program creates a record for User ID "Admin" at startup. Password
is "admin". You should change this password as soon as possible.

Multi User Configuration Manager allows the system administrator to set
up separate private configurations for each user. This is handy in an
environment where more than one person has access to a PC. The program
allows each user to log in and configure several applications, such as:

       E-mail programs, with their own password and mail directories;
Netscape Navigator and other web browsers, with a private
        signature file, bookmark files, etc.
       Graphics browsers
Word processors, with the user's own list of most recent files
Private list of subscribed UseNet news groups.

The program should NOT be used for the following purposes:

Reconfiguring boot-time files, such as CONFIG.SYS and
AUTOEXEC.BAT. Use the system's multiple boot facilities for this
        purpose.

Any Windows configuration files, including WIN.INI, SYSTEM.INI,
PROGMAN.INI and the various group files *.GRP in your Windows
Directory. This program runs DURING a Windows session. Windows
writes to those files during the session. Messing with them
during a session is a bad idea, and will result in corrupted
        files.

On the other hand, if you like to play Solitaire using a certain set of
card backs and the "draw one" protocol, and your spouse prefers "draw
three" then you can select SOL.INI as one configuration file to keep
private.

Getting Started

Here is a brief overview of the set up process:

1. The System Administrator sets up records for one or more users.
Two users are automatically set up at install time:
ADMIN and DEFAULT. User ID ADMIN is reserved for the
administrator. User ID DEFAULT is the Default configuration - this
configuration is restored automatically when any user logs off the
system. After the users are set up, the program creates a
        subdirectory for each user.

2 The System Administrator selects the files that will be private to
        each user. Examples are SOL.INI, NETSCAPE.INI, SIGNATURE.TXT,
BOOKMARK.HTM, etc. You may add to the list or remove files from
the list at any time. Be careful when selecting these files. It
is always a good idea to make backups. You may wish to use the program to give your kids private, "empty" data files for a
checkbook program such as Quicken. This should work fine, but
make backups of all files before you start. Also, remember that if you do something like this, both you and your spouse will each
have DIFFERENT COPIES of those files as well! Plan carefully. In
a case like this, it is better to have only one user called
"Quicken" have access to these files, and everyone else has empty
        data files.

3. The System Administrator then Initializes each user's subdirectory
with CURRENT versions of each selected file.

4. As each user logs in, he/she modifies the configuration to suit
his/her needs. For example, each user should create a mail
signature file and set up e-mail programs to put their mail in
their own subdirectory, and provide their e-mail address and
password to the program. In other words, use the program and
customize it as you normally would.

5. As each user logs off, those customized configurations are saved,
and replaced with the "Default" configurations.

Extensive help is available.

The following files are included in the distribution:

CONFGMGR.EXE The executable program
CONFGMGR.HLP Help file
README.TXT This file
VBRUN300.DLL Visual Basic DLL. to WINDOWS\SYSTEM
THREED.VBX Visual Basic control to WINDOWS\SYSTEM

You probably have the last two files already. If so, the installer will
not replace these files unless yours are older.
