1) NEW FEATURES:
   =============

    QUICK-DOS EXIT FEATURE (NEW!!!)
    ===============================

     Quick-DOS exit feature has been newly added in this version.
     This feature allows you to quickly exit Windows and get back to the
     DOS prompt. Quick Restart automatically saves all open applications
     and files in Windows and exits you to DOS. This feature is accessible
     by single clicking on the Quick Restart icon in Windows and choosing
     the "Quick DOS Exit" option.

     This feature is very useful to temporarily exit Windows quickly
     and goto DOS prompt to run your favorite DOS program (like GAMES,
     host/terminal emulators, other application programs that are better
     run only from DOS). Once you are finished with the work in DOS,
     all you do is type WIN to return to Windows at exactly the same
     position where you left Windows before. Even if you reboot the system
     Quick Restart will put you back to your previous Windows state.

     When you are in the QUICK-DOS exit mode, you can not do any additional
     system saves to the hard disk. Any attempt to use the hotkey from a
     DOS application will generate 5 beeps. This is because there is only
     one image file that saves the Windows state and this can not be
     overwritten. Also when you are in a QUICK-DOS exit mode, do not go
     and delete any Windows swap files or other files in Windows directories.

    QUICK-PAUSE FEATURE:
    ====================
    This feature is active when in Windows desktop and it brings back the
    function of the PAUSE key on the keyboard to help you in the middle
    of normal interruptions to work. It is very convenient and useful
    especially in the middle of a multimedia presentation or watching a
    video clip, self running demos, instructional videos etc., to
    instantaneously pause the session by just pressing the PAUSE key on
    the keyboard. Later, you press any normal key on the keyboard to
    continue with the previous session.

    By default, the QUICK-PAUSE feature is active and you can turn it
    off from the QUICK RESTART - SETTINGS dialog box in Windows.

2) HOW AND WHEN NOT TO USE QUICK RESTART
========================================
  A) Please power off the system only after a complete save is done and after
     you hear the beep and you are asked to power off/reset the system.
     If you hurry to power off/reset the system in the middle of a
     hotkey save operation, it can result in total loss of system state/data.

     Quick Restart is only a convenience tool that saves the complete
     state of your system when you are ready to power off the system.
     It will not save your system from power outages or power failures.

  B) Quick Restart can be used in the middle of any program. However, it is
     not advisable to use it in the following situations:

        - When a communications program is doing a file transfer or has
          established session with remote a end, the remote end could time
          out before you restore the system state.

        - When a printing operation is taking place and you reset the
          computer to restore the previous state, or during a save/restore
          time lapse, the printer could get reset or timed out. So
          any printing operation interrupted in the middle may not
          continue correctly afterwards.

  C) If you are doing optimization with a memory optimizer such as MEMMAKER,
     QEMM OPTIMIZE, or 386MAX MAXIMIZE, it is advisable to remark
     (insert REM in front of) the Quick Restart driver entries
     QRESTART.EXE and QRCONT.EXE in config.sys and autoexec.bat.
     You can take the REM out after the optimization process is
     completed and reposition QRESTART.EXE to its previous relative position
     and then reboot the system. For a better customization of your
     memory manager optimization utility to work with QUICK RESTART, please
     contact the provider of the optimization utility.

  D) Do not run any Disk Repair utilities or "CHKDSK /F" before the
     QRESTART.EXE or QRCONT.EXE programs in config.sys and autoexec.bat.

     All disk buffers are flushed and files are committed during the
     save operation by Quick Restart. However, some disk caches with
     delayed writes, do not flush out or write all data to disk. This is not
     a problem for Quick Restart because it can still restore the state
     as it was before. But this won't be liked by the Disk Repair utilities.
     Hence, it is advisable not to run any type of disk repair operation
     until Quick Restart restores the previous state of the system.

3) "MONO" OPTION FOR INSTALL, QRCONFIG
=======================================
  If you are using a portable with LCD display, and the INSTALLATION or
  CONFIGURATION program screens are not clear, run INSTALL or QRCONFIG
  program using the MONO switch. (INSTALL MONO or QRCONFIG MONO)

4) RECOMMENDED MEMORY MANAGER CONFIGURATION
===========================================
  The recommended memory manager configuration for Quick Restart is
  HIMEM.SYS along with EMM386.EXE or similar driver. Quick Restart can load
  its buffers in high memory area and with XA20 option it can use external
  A20 handler configured in the HIMEM.SYS driver only if HIMEM.SYS precedes
  it in config.sys. QRESTART.EXE must load before a Extended memory manager
  such as EMM386.EXE.

  If you are using a third party memory manager such as 386MAX.SYS or
  QEMM386.SYS, you may use them in place of the EMM386.EXE driver.
  However, if you want to take advantage of loading Quick Restart buffers
  in high memory area or use the XA20 option, you must load the HIMEM.SYS
  that comes with DOS (appropriately configured for your computer) ahead
  of the QRESTART.EXE driver line. Also, if your computer has non standard
  AT or non standard PS2 design, you need to position the HIMEM.SYS driver
  ahead of QRESTART.EXE so Quick Restart can use the A20 handler
  specific to your system.

  Quick Restart is a system level utility that is sensitive to the
  memory manager configuration in your system. It is very important to
  configure your memory manager to work properly with Quick Restart and
  all other software in the system.

5) EMS Support:
===============
  EMS Support is limited to EMS 4.0 compatible EMS drivers on 386/486
  computers that use extended memory to simulate EMS memory.
  Old methods of EMS implementation on 8086 and 286 computers using
  separate EMS memory cards are not supported.

6) ABOUT COMPUTERS SUPPORTED
=============================
  Quick Restart works on 386/486/Pentium IBM compatible AT systems and PS/1,
  PS/2 systems. Quick Restart can also work with 286 and 8086 computers.
  However usage on 286/86 computers is not recommended as no further
  support will be provided.

7) 386MAX SUPPORT
==================

   386MAX versions up to and including 7.0 work with Quick Restart.
   All configuration setup is done automatically by Quick Restart.

   The device driver 386MAX.SYS should appear after QRESTART.EXE
   in config.sys.

   Before using the MAXIMIZE feature of 386MAX, it is advisable to remark
   (insert REM in front of) the Quick Restart drivers in autoexec.bat and
   config.sys. Take the REM out and reboot after the maximization process
   is completed.

   386MAX 7.0 UPDATE
   =================
   a) EXTRADOS feature of 386MAX requires that the entries:
      - DEVICE=C:\386MAX\EXTRADOS.MAX ....
      - INSTALL=C:\386MAX\EXTRADOS.MAX
      be the last two entries in config.sys.

      If you want to insert QRCONT at the end of CONFIG.SYS
      you must either insert it before the above two lines of EXTRADOS
      in CONFIG.SYS or insert it as the first line in AUTOEXEC.BAT.

      Inserting the QRCONT.EXE driver in config.sys after EXTRADOS drivers
      will cause subsegment error warnings and 386MAX will ask you to run
      MAXIMIZE program. This can be avoided by the method described above.

8) QEMM SUPPORT
===============

   All versions of QEMM from 6.0 to 7.5 are supported. The QEMM Stealth,
   DOS-UP and VIDRAM features are fully supported by Quick Restart.
   The configuration setup is done automatically by Quick Restart.

   Before using the OPTIMIZE program of QEMM, please uninstall Quick Restart
   using the Quick Restart INSTALL program. Run the QEMM optimization and
   after QEMM optimization is completed, INSTALL Quick Restart on your
   system again.

   QEMM 7.x UPDATE
   ================

   THE DOS-UP feature of QEMM is now supported by Quick Restart.
   The Quick Restart Install / Configure programs automatically take care
   of arranging the QEMM lines in config.sys and inserting the correct
   parameters.

   The order of lines in config.sys must be as follows:
   1) DEVICE=C:\QEMM\DOSDATA.SYS I-
   2) DEVICE=C:\QEMM\HOOKROM.SYS
   3) DEVICE=C:\QRESTART\QRESTART.EXE /CFG:C /IMG:C
   to be followed by QEMM386.SYS, QDPMI,DOS-UP.SYS and others as desired.

   Note: The I- parameter in DOSDATA.SYS driver line is mandatory.

   HOOKROM.SYS program is not necessary unless some other drivers in your
   config.sys file do require it.

9) NETROOM 3.0 SUPPORT
======================

  Quick Restart fully supports Netroom 3.0. It also supports the video bios
  and system bios cloaking options of Netroom.

10) DOUBLE SPACE SUPPORT / DRIVE SPACE SUPPORT
==============================================
    Both DoubleSpace and DriveSpace are supported. The image file of
    Quick Restart must be installed on an uncompressed partition.

11) STACKER SUPPORT
====================
  Stacker versions 2.0 to 4.0 are supported.

  Even if you are upgrading between different Stacker versions, please
  deinstall Quick Restart and reinstall it after the update.

  Double Space to Stacker Conversion
  ----------------------------------
  If you are upgrading from DoubleSpace to Stacker, please
  deinstall Quick Restart and reinstall Quick Restart after the
  Conversion.

  Stacker 3.0, 2.x Synchronization related Warnings:
  --------------------------------------------------
  Because both Stacker and Quick Restart take timestamps of the
  autoexec.bat and config.sys files, sometimes you may come across
  warnings from Quick Restart about config.sys/autoexec.bat changes
  when Stacker makes changes to the startup files after Quick Restart
  has taken their timestamp. If you find that STACKER does a
  synchronization of autoexec.bat or config.sys files you must do
  a reboot before doing the next Quick Restart save. This can help to
  remove the synchronization related warnings.

12) FEW THINGS TO WATCH FOR IN WINDOWS
=========================================
  a) Stuck ALT key problem
  --------------------------
   When frequently switching between DOS sessions in Windows enhanced mode,
   sometimes your ALT key or one of the other shift keys may get stuck.
   When a ALT key gets stuck in a DOS session you will not be able to type
   anything or the characters will not show up in the DOS session. You may
   even think that the system is hung. The way to release the stuck ALT key,
   is to press and release the (LEFT and/or RIGHT) ALT keys.

   If one of the ALT/CTRL key is stuck and you press the Quick Restart
   hotkeys (Shift+Bksp or any other), the system will not respond because
   it is not getting the correct hotkey combination. Quick Restart hotkeys
   will be accepted only after you release the stuck keys.

13) ALWAYS KEEP CFG AND IMG FILES HIDDEN
=========================================
  You must always keep the QRESTART.CFG and QRESTART.IMG files as hidden,
  except when temporarily necessary to see them. These files must be kept
  hidden and readonly, so that they will not be relocated or moved from
  their positions by any disk defragmenter/other utility program.

14) GENERAL VIDEO CONFIGURATION INFORMATION
============================================

  To make life simple and if you dont want to know all details of video:
  The recommended setup is EXPRESS setup for all Windows users. It sets up
  IBM standard VGA with 256k memory size in imagefile for use within DOS.
  This option will help to conserve the image file space and is the most
  ideal option for all Windows users. It also uses the Windows device
  independent mode of operation and no image file space is required to save
  the video data.

  Now if you really care any more about specific video chipset support
  please read the following or you may skip to the next section.

  For a list of various SuperVGA chipsets and cards supported directly,
  choose the F9/List option in the "General System Configuration" menu.
  The following are the various chipsets that are currently supported by
  Quick Restart. This means that you can use Quick Restart in any of the
  high resolution modes supported by the card, under DOS or any other
  application including Windows, using a direct interface to the chipset.

       1) ATI -            ATI28800
       2) Cirrus Logic -   CLGD 5426, 5424, 5422, 5410, 5402, 5401,5320
       3) Oak Technology - 0TI-77, OTI-67, OTI-57, OTI-37
       4) Trident -        TVGA9000, TVGA8900, TVGA8800
       5) Tseng Labs -     ET4000/AX, ET4000/W32, ET3000
       6) Video 7 -        1024i, VRAM II, Win VGA
       7) Western Digital- WD90C31, 90C30, 90C26, 90C24, 90C22, 90C20, 90C11

  All the chipsets above are automatically recognized by Quick Restart
  Installation/Configuration programs. However, if the hardware configuration
  or other problems cause improper identification of chipset or memory size,
  you can correct the chipset type and SVGA memory size (if desired) in the
  "General System Configuration" options.

  If your video chipset is not one of the above, then use IBM STANDARD VGA
  option with 256k video memory and Windows Device Independent mode of
  operation.

  Note: Saving and restoring high resolution screens (1024x768x256 etc.,)
  in a DOS application or from outside of Windows, requires the correct
  chipset configuration or the use of a custom video driver.

  Please note that certain types of SuperVGA/Windows Accelerator chipsets
  do not make themselves amenable to do a direct chip-level interface to do
  a complete video state save and restore across power-off/power-on.
  In such cases, go with the Windows Device independent mode of operation
  and IBM STANDARD VGA configuration. This implies that high resolution
  modes of screen are saved/restored only within the Windows
  desktop when run under Windows. The same is not available for non Windows
  applications. Non Windows applications save/restore their state only as a
  standard 256k VGA memory board.

  Also, a custom video driver may be used to interface Quick Restart to the
  video chipset while doing save and restore operations. This requires an
  OEM supplied driver for Quick Restart specific to the chipset or the
  video card.

15) SYQUEST/OTHER PARALLEL PORT DRIVES (/IRQ7 SWITCH)
=====================================================

  If the image file is created on a parallel port removable/fixed disk,
  and the default configuration does not work - please add the "/IRQ7"
  switch to the QRESTART.EXE driver line in config.sys.

  The "/IRQ7" option is in addition to the " /CFG:C" etc., options
  already on the QRESTART.EXE driver line. Also, if your parallel port
  drive requires special drivers in config.sys/autoexec.bat to access
  it, you will need to configure "/DELAY" option and insert the QRCONT
  program after these disk drivers.
