INSTALLATION
============
The Password for SCOTLAND YARD is "DEMO". After you login as DEMO,
you may add and delete your own employees and assign them their
own password. You can then delete the DEMO user.

To install Scotland Yard, run the SETUP.EXE file.

When installing SCOTLAND YARD for the first time, you should
instal SCOTLAND YARD to a network drive (and directory). Make
sure that all users will have access to the directory that you
installed SCOTLAND YARD in (the default will be F:\SCOTLAND ).

After installing SCOTLAND YARD to the network, SCOTLAND YARD is ready
to run. To install SCOTLAND YARD for other users, you simply need to
create a shortcut on their desktop to the SCOTLAND.EXE that you
installed onto the network. Don't run the SETUP.EXE again on other
computers. Doing so will re-install the SCOTLAND YARD data files
thereby erasing all changes you may have made.

Once you get in, you can go into the Employee File Management and add
your employees. Feel free to change or delete the employees that come
with Scotland Yard. The employees included are for helping you see how
Scotland Yard works.

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION AND USEFULL TIPS
====================================
SCOTLAND YARD is an electronic Sign In/Out board to help track where
employees are located. Receptionists (and anyone else that needs to
locate employees) can run the Employee Detective in SCOTLAND YARD
to list employees and their current status (IN, OUT, AT LUNCH, IN
MEETING etc.). The Employee Detective screen is automatically
updated every minute, so any change by employees is automatically
updated in the Employee Detective screen.

Once SCOTLAND YARD is installed, Receptionists and managers can
easily determine where the employees are located. If an employee is
away from their desk, the receptionist can create a phone message with
SCOTLAND YARD. When the employee signs back in, they are notified
of waiting phone messages.

The Employee Detective has many features. When first run, all
employees are listed. You can click on any column to sort on that column.
If you click on the column a second time, you get the list in the reverse
sort order. Right Clicking on any employee will display a pop-up menu that
will allow you can edit the employee's status, or create a phone message.

On the Tree View side of the screen, you will see that you can
list all employees, list employees by department, or list employees
by their current status (i.e., employees that are In, employees that are
out sick, out to lunch, etc.).

SCOTLAND YARD has the ability for users to enter in future calendar
whereabouts. For the future calendar IN/OUT codes to be automatically
updated, you need to download the (free) desktop SY_SCHED.EXE program or the
NT Service version SYSRVCE. One of these programs needs to be runnning
on at least one workstation or NT File Server at all times.
If the schedulers are not running, the future calendar items will not be
updated.

RUNNING SCOTLAND YARD WITH COMMAND LINE PARAMETERS:
===================================================
Scotland Yard can be run with command line parameters to automatically pass
in the user's password so they do not have to enter their password every day.
To pass in a password with Scotland Yard, add the users name in quotes to the
shortcut properties in Windows 95/98/NT/2000/XP.

Example: Target: F:\APPS\SCOTLAND\SCOTLAND.EXE "KATIE"

Scotland Yard will also look for the "User" environment variable for the
user's password. If a command line password isn't entered and there is no
"User" environment variable, then Scotland Yard will prompt the user to enter
a password.

It is important to optimize and reindex the files periodically. We recommend
that you reindex the files at least once a month. It would even be better
if you reindexed once a week! To help facilitate this, we have added "AUTOINDEX"
as a command line parameter to SCOTLAND.EXE that can be run with the Microsoft
System Agent or any other scheduling program. Running:

Example: Target: F:\APPS\SCOTLAND\SCOTLAND.EXE "AUTOINDEX"

will cause Scotland Yard to reindex and optimize all files - with no user
intervention. Most of our customers run Scotland Yard with the "AUTOINDEX"
feature every Wednesday Night or Friday Night after all the other users have
been logged off.
