1. The Purpose of WinTopo

WinTopo is a Raster (Images) to Vector (Drawing) conversion tool.
Its main function is to convert linear/polyline features in the raster images
to coressponding vector drawing files.

It provides both famous Zhang-Suen and Stentiford Thinning method as part of
the preprocess for vectorisation.

WinTopo is suitable for conversion of scanned Topographic Maps/
Engineering Drawings images, saved into drawing files, and then open in CAD
tools like AutoCAD(tm), IntelliCAD(tm) for modification. This is useful,
especially when you need to edit portion of the image, and yet do not have
the original drawing file.

WinTopo takes Windows Bitmap (*.BMP) format images as input,
and produces the industry de-facto standard AutoCAD(tm) Drawing Exchange
Format (*.DXF), R2V for Windows' Arc Format (*.ARC) and its native ASCII data file format.

WinTopo is a "must have" handy tool for Engineering/Architecture/Urban
Planning Consultants, CAD and GIS professionals.
