ActiveEarth Puts World Time on Satellite Photos of Earth

OAK HARBOR, WA -- (February 22, 1999) Cloudless satellite
photographs of the earth during day and night are the
dramatic backdrop to ActiveEarth, a new atomic clock and
world time program for Microsoft Windows. A fully-functional
free trial version of ActiveEarth can be downloaded at
http://www.activeearth.com.

ActiveEarth shows the real-time movement of the sun across
the face of the earth. Day is shown in bright, colorful
detail while the portions of the earth in darkness are
seen in the pale glow of the moon, with city lights shining
out into space from major metropolitan centers.

A row of clocks below the earth image shows the current time
in cities around the world. Users can choose from more than
500 cities and can add their own cities at any time. Cities
are displayed with clocks in a user-chosen style and are
labeled on the earth image.

Synchronization with atomic clock servers via the Internet,
graphical plotting of time differences between cities, and
highly visual tools for understanding the movement of the
sun and moon over individual cities are among the many
other product features.

According to Dan Pritchett, director of marketing at Logos
Research Systems, "ActiveEarth is a great tool for anyone
who has to deal with time zones. Frequent travelers and
people with friends or business associates around the world
will find it indispensable. The graphical alignment of two
time zones is a quick way to see when you should make
international phone calls. Teachers will find ActiveEarth
a visually interesting way to help explain time zones and
the changing length of the day through the seasons."

Educators will appreciate the depth of data available for
each city as well as the ability to set the earth image
to a specific date and time, making ActiveEarth a powerful
tool for understanding earth's relationship to the sun and
moon.

ActiveEarth runs on Windows 95, Windows 98, and Windows NT.
While ActiveEarth can be smoothly scaled to almost any size,
and will work in 256-color mode, the underlying images are
stored in super-high resolution True Color, allowing
higher-end machines to take full advantage of the richness
of the images.

The time zone database used by ActiveEarth is extremely
detailed with world-wide information on daylight savings
time and even an understanding of complex time zone issues,
such as small areas where zones differ by 15 minutes rather
than an hour.

ActiveEarth was developed by Logos Research Systems, Inc.,
a leading producer of electronic reference products and
electronic publishing technologies located in Oak Harbor,
Washington, near Seattle. More information on Logos
