Release Notes for JG Appbar version 2.0

Bug Fixes:

1) Fixed a bug that prevented .bat files from executing if the path to the
file had a blank in it (i.e. Program Files).

2) Worked around a problem with Start Menu Automation. If the Start Menu had
been modified (new items added to it) then the wrong menu items might be
invoked by the icon. This is a bug in Windows 95.

3) Importing shortcuts from the Desktop under Windows NT only imported from
the generic desktop instead of from the user specific Desktop.

4) Fixed a bug in the Change Icon dialog that wasn't releasing memory for
   displayed icons.

New Features:

1) JG Appbar can now do special processing for computer shutdown. If you set
up an icon for Start Menu Automation for any kind of shutdown, then a
special JGSHTDWN.BAT file will be executed before shutdown. You can put
DOS commands in this file, CALL other .BAT files or programs, etc.
The file is located in the user directory of the path that you selected for
installation. By default, it would be in C:\Program Files\JGAPPBAR\userid\.
You can use the Start Menu Find utility to locate it.
The file itself has more information on customizing it.

   IMPORTANT!!!
   After installing this release:
Using Explorer, Find JGSHTDWN.BAT then RIGHT click on it. Choose Properties.
Make sure that the "Close on exit" box is checked.

2) Dragging files to a hidden bar is no longer a 2 step process if the source of
object being dragged is OLE enabled. Dragging something into a hidden bar will
now awaken it. (It IS still a two step process for old, non OLE applications,
   i.e. File Manager.)

3) You can now drag desktop shortcuts to the bar. Dragging things and dropping them
on the BAR (vs on an icon) will attempt to create a new icon for the draggee.

4) Descriptions will be made for shortcuts imported to the bar.

5) You can now have icons for folders and documents in the bar.

6) When adding an icon for a .exe file that doesn't contain any icons, will now
look for a .ico file in the same directory.

7) When IMPORTing icons from a directory, you can now browse for the directory.
You can easily IMPORT programs from your Start Menu by finding the directory.
i.e. you can IMPORT the things from Start Menu -> Programs -> Accessories
by "finding" the directory C:\WINDOWS\Start Menu\Programs\Accessories
(or where ever you installed Windows).

8) The Change Icon dialog now has a drop-down list box to make find icons from
the typical system files much easier.

9) There are now default icons for Start Menu Automation icons and Programs.

10) The Add New Program Icon process has been changed so that all you need to do
is Find whatever you want and drag it to the bar.

11) The Change Icon dialog will now display more icons at a time, depending on
    your screen size and resolution.

12) I've added a Desktop item to the Start Menu Automation items. If you add an
icon for it to the bar, clicking on it will bring you to the desktop in 1 click.

13) You can now change the cursors used by the bar.

14) The bar now has the option to hide the special windows desktop icons like
My Computer, Recycle Bin, etc. while the bar is running.

15) You can now adjust the size of icons and even have different sized icons
    in the same bar.

16) You can now adjust the spacing and position of individual icons.

17) IMPORTing from the desktop will now import everything on the desktop including
    My Computer, Recycle Bin, etc.

Other Changes:

1) Importing shortcuts will no longer automatically import shortcuts in
   sub directories.

Caveats:

1) I have not tested this program with Windows 98.

2) As with most OLE things under Windows NT, importing shortcuts can be slow.

Known Problems:

Some games do not cooperate well with other programs or Windows in general, and so
may run incorrectly (or not at all) when the bar is running. Riven is one in
particular. In cases where you are having trouble running a game, try exiting the
bar and running the game. If that works, you can leave icons on the desktop for that
game and for JGAPPBAR. When you want to run the game, exit the appbar and click
on the game's icon on the desktop. When you're done playing the game, you can
click on the JGAPPBAR icon on the desktop to restore the bar.
