SIMTEL DOWNLOAD:
The VB6 runtime files needed for this program can be found at this URL:
http://www.simtel.net/simtel.net/win95/dll.html

ABOUT:
This utility can auto start your backup program so that you can run a daily
backup each time you boot your system. It works with Microsoft Backup, Seagate
Backup and Veritas Backup Exec. It may work with other backup programs. Place
a shortcut to the program in your start up folder and ensure that your last
backup was your daily backup (this utility starts any type of backup) and that
your backup media is available. When Windows starts the next time you boot, the
utility will run.

INSTALLATION:
Unzip the zip file. You can store the files in any folder (but the .bat and
.exe files must be in the same folder) and place a shortcut to your start-up
folder if you want it to run automatically each time you run windows. Edit the
.bat file so that it starts your backup software. That's it.

UNINSTALLATION:
Delete the EduceStart.exe and EduceStart.bat files.

Install/Uninstall routines have not been included (in the Simtel zip) as they
would be bigger than the program itself and as it is only two files with this
readme.txt it seemed a little over the top. A version with install uninstall
may be made available in the future from Educe's website.

USING EDUCESTART:
Having installed the program as detailed above, check that the .bat file is
working correctly ie it opens your backup program. Three default settings have
been provided but your system could be different in that you may have the
program in a different folder or may have a different language. When
EduceStart.exe runs for the first time, you will be prompted for the
Registration number. Details of how to register the program are given below.
You will also be asked for the start button letter. On English versions of the
three supported backup programs this is the letter 'S' which is the underlined
letter on the start button. Your backup program may be different. You will
also be asked for the title bar name of your program. This is different for
each of the supported programs with 'Microsoft Backup' for MS backup, 'Seagate'
for Seagate backup and 'Backup Exec' for Veritas backup exec. Your software may
have a different title. Only enter the name before the '-' in the title bar as
the backup name follows this and is not required by this utility. You will also
be asked for the backup job letter. All these settings are stored in the
registry so only need to be entered once. If you make a mistake or cannot get
the utility to work, double click the EduceStart.reg file to reset the registry
settings to their default values. Then run the EduceStart again. The small
screen shows you your current settings. These can be changed during the start delay and 5
second pause from the last entry before the auto start comes into effect. This
is noticeable when you are sat there having just entered the title information
but is not noticeable when the utility is run normally. The pause allows the
backup program to start before the utility tries to start the backup. You may
notice that the MS Dos window that opened for the batch file stays open. If you
click on the properties icon in the toolbar in the MS Dos window and then check
the close on exit box this will not happen in future. This setting can only be
applied locally.
