WEB-ED is a dual editor, primarily for HTML and VBScript. These are two
separate editors that share the same window. There are various functions for
each language. There are also several built-in utilities including:

* Object Browser to research methods and properties of scriptable objects.
* Color Picker.
* Color Sampler to get the hex code of a single pixel in an image.
* Snippet Library to store code snippets or reference text.
* Find and Replace.
* Multi-file Replace.
* Quick reference windows for VBS constants and ASCII characters.
* Toggling, resizable browser window to view current HTML page.

If you use WEB-ED for scripting:
There are free VBScript samples and components available at the
 Joe'Software website.

INSTALLATION:
__________________________________________________________________

Just double-click the installation .exe file.
This program is written in Visual Basic 6. If you don't have the VB6 'Runtime Files'
on your computer then when you run WEB-ED you'll get an error message that
MSVBVM60.DLL is missing. MSVBVM60.DLL is pre-installed on Win98SE, WinME,
Win2000 and WinXP. If you use Win95/98/NT4 and have never installed VB6
software the file may need to be installed. It can be obtained from Microsoft at:

   http://support.microsoft.com/download/support/mslfiles/vbrun60.exe

In the interest of compatibility and non-intrusiveness, WEB-ED is packaged with
files only as new as are required for the program. In most cases these files will
not be newer than the versions on your system and will therefore not be installed.

___________________________________________________________________
COMPATIBILITY:
___________________________________________________________________

 WEB-ED 4 may be used on Win95/98/ME/NT/2000/XP

WEB-ED 4 uses the file TLBINF32.DLL in the ClassTrack utility. In most cases
this will not be a problem. However, if you have installed:

* Visual Basic 5 or
* a debugging utility made in Visual Basic 5

You may have an earlier version of TLBINF32.DLL. Unfortunately, both versions
have the same name and WEB-ED installation will replace the older version. This
newer version may not work with the above programs. If this situation applies
to you it's recommended that you make a copy of your current version of
TLBINF32.DLL before installing WEB-ED. If necessary that copy can later be
re-installed.
________________________________

Installed files - The following files will be installed if they are not present on your
system or if your currently installed version is older:

RICHED32.DLL v. 4.0.993.4 [Microsoft system files for text window functionality]
RICHTX32.OCX v. 6.0.84.18 [Microsoft system files for text window functionality]

Most systems will already have these files installed. These files are installed by
WEB-ED only if there is no existing version or if the existing file has a lower version
number.

TLBINF32.DLL v. 1.1.81.69 [System file needed for the Object Browser]

In addition, WEB-ED installs its own program files which are installed to the program
folder. These include WEBED.exe, help files and several INI files.

CHANGES IN WEB-ED 4.1:

* Improved speed and efficiency of colorcoding and line debugging, particularly
for the VBS in HTML functions.

* Improved interface for the Object Browser, with easier-to-read object type info.
listings and more information. Also: The Object Browser had previously been
unable to find object information stored in a separate TLB file. It could open a
TLB file but could not find it given a ProgID or CLSID. That functionality has been added.

* 2 "Extra Clipboards" - These serve as additional storage for text that needs to
be held for repeated pasting.

* Option to use CScript.exe for scripts and to add command line parameters when
running scripts.

* Comment coloring added for HTML.

Minor changes:

* Added optional setting for increment when moving text blocks.
* Added option to set default SaveAs file extension.
* Drag and drop functionality to open files in View Image and main editor window.
* Minor improvements to virtually all colorcoding and debugging functions.
* Option in Browser window to open current page in other browser.
* BUGFIX: Fixed the tendency for colorcoding to not be updated on line where
caret has just left when a Cut operation is performed (VBS).

Fixes in intermediate patch v. 4.025:

* fixed v. 4.0 problem with Tab key shifting focus.
* fixed two minor inconsistencies with color coding in v. 4.0.
* fixed problem with window sometimes jumping during Cut in v. 4.0.

CHANGES IN WEB-ED 4:
______________________________________________________________________

 WEB-ED was extensively reworked from v. 3.4 to v. 4.0
Changes include:

Speed - The various specialty functions such as colorcoding and debugging
are now noticeably faster; they take about 60% of the time required
                in WEB-ED 3.
Speed was not a significant issue before in the HTML editor but large
VBS files, with a large number of variables, would sometimes cause a
lag when WEB-ED updated its variable list and variable colorcoding.
That lag can still happen with a sufficiently large file but in general
there is far less lag then previously.

Hotkeys - Hotkey combinations can be assigned to most menu items
(Settings window) and also to custom popup menus. The hotkey
                   method is Ctrl + (A-Z).

Auto-Insert Popup - A new function provides for a configurable
auto-insert popup in the scripting editor, as well as within <SCRIPT>
and ASP tags [ <% %> ] in the HTML editor.
The functions of the Class Track object browser have been extended
so that in addition to researching objects in Class Track and saving the
info. in the Snippet Library, there is a new Auto-Insert Setup window.
In that window you can search for an object by ProgID, CLSID or file.
If type info. is found in the related file all documented objects will be listed.

Any object can then be added to the Auto-Insert list. Once a variable(s)
is assigned to the object, the popup will appear when that variable is
typed with a period. Some objects are set up by default at program
install. You can add any objects that you wish.
For example: If FSO is assigned to Scripting.FileSystemObject all the
FSO methods and properties will show in the popup window when "FSO."
is typed. Also, the parameters and help info. will appear in the status bar.

The auto-insert object data is kept in webedt.ini and may be editied.

Because of this new function and others, the VBS auto-insert buttons
have been removed. The popup menus for FSO, Shell and Network have
also been removed. The 2 custom popup menu are still available and one could
be used for things like "Set FSO = CreateObject......."

VBS parameters in status bar - When ( is typed after a VBS method
the parameters will show in the status bar. The data for this function
is kept in webedv.ini and mat be editied.

HTML tag info. in status bar - Select an HTML tag and click <H on the
toolbar. The status bar will show possible parameters for that tag. Only
tags and parameters that work in both IE and Netscape have been included.
The data for this function is in webedh.ini and may be edited.

ASP - colorcoding and auto-insert popup are now available within ASP tags.

Printing - option to print with colorcoding.

"Jump to Column" option in script: when Return is pressed caret goes
to same column as beginning of line above for easier code indenting.
      ex.:
abcdefg (when going to next line caret will line up under "a")

    Debugging:

Object search - The missing object search in full-file debugging now checks
for a Dimmed variable before proceeding (except in the case of wscript).
The list of object methods checked is kept in webedo.ini and may be edited.

Debug report - Per-line debugging still reports on the menu bar but with
full-file debugging, in both VBS and HTML, there is now a debug window.
If no problems are found "OK" will show on the menu bar. Otherwise, th
debug window will open with a list of all bugs found. Clicking an item in
the list will go to that line. This allows the whole file to be debugged at one
time and false-positives can be easily ignored.

. The editor left indent function was removed because it conflicts with the
     Insert Returns function.

. Most Recently Used files - There is now an MRU menu on the File menu.

. Fonts - Choice of font face.

. Line numbers - Because of the increased scripting options in HTML, the
line numbers now show all the time.

. Status bar - There is now a new scrollable status bar that displays various
types of info. (described above). By default text is highlighted when shown
in the bar for visibility. The highlighting can also be disabled.

. Class Track - The Class Track properties info. has been slightly improved.
It now labels methods and events as such. Also, there was a problem whereby
some repeat names for different objects in the same file would not get listed.
      That has been fixed.

. Find and Replace - "Find Previous" has been added. (The < button)

  . Auto case adjustment for:
          Keywords
          Variables
Methods and properties checked when VBS debugging is run.
VBS methods with Help info. (anything listed in webedv.ini)

. Find and Replace functionality added to Clipping Pads.

. Option to enlarge Properties List window for better viewing in ClassTrack.

There are 5 .INI files in the program folder. These files contain data used
for some of the new functions. There is a general explanation in the new Help
and details in the comments at the top of each file. All of these files can be
edited to change the behavior of the related function.
webedk.ini - contains editable list of VBS keywords for colorcoding.
webedh.ini - contains data for the HTML tag info. function.
webedv.ini - contains data for showing parameters when VBS methods are typed.
webedo.ini - contains the list of object methods to check in VBS debugging.
webedt.ini - contains the information for the Auto-insert popup menu.
(This file usually does not need to be edited. Changes can be made
through the Auto-insert setup window. It can be edited, though, if
you want to remove methods from an object's list.)
