1. Introduction
Mail Snoop is a mail checker/filter utility, which works in the background monitoring your Internet Pop3 mailboxes and protecting you from unwanted junk emails. Mail Snoop advises if there is new mail, giving you the opportunity to review it before either downloading it or deleting. Mail Snoop will also automatically filter your mail for you, removing unwanted items.
This program is Shareware; you can use it for 30 days free of charge to evaluate it. If at the end of that period you want to continue using it, then your copy must be registered. Your single-user registration will license you to use your copy of Mail Snoop, entitle you to receive bug fixes and minor revisions, and provide you with free technical support via email. To find out how to register, please see the 'How to Register' section in the Mail Snoop help file or visit the Rainbow Innovations web site at http://www.rainbow-innov.co.uk
2. Hardware Requirements
Mail Snoop runs under Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows NT4 Windows 2000 and Windows XP, with 3.5mb free disc space and an Internet connection via modem or LAN.
3. Installing Mail Snoop
If you have downloaded Mail Snoop, as a ZIP file then use a decompression utility such as WinZip or PkUnzip to unpack the ZIP file into a suitable directory (such as C:\Program Files\Mail Snoop).
Run the installation program setupms.exe and then follow the instructions onscreen.
If you already have a version of Mail Snoop installed and wish to update it, then it is not necessary to remove the old version first, when prompted by the installer to select the components you want to install select "Mail Snoop Partial Installation" to preserve your filter settings. However, you must ensure you shut down Mail Snoop first or the new installation will fail.
4. Removing Mail Snoop
Shut down Mail Snoop before uninstalling. Go to "Add/Remove Programs" in the control panel and uninstall Mail Snoop from there.

What's New since version 1.3.3.0 (A full revision history can now be found in the text file: history.txt)
27 November 2002 - Version 1.4.3.0 released
* Bugs Fixed
o Fixed Connection Options "Disconnect modem when finished". The option now works as expected - if set then the line will be dropped, if cleared the connection will be left open.
o Revised file load/save routines to make them more robust.
* Important Note - if after installing this version do not at a later point revert to an earlier version without uninstalling this version first. A change to one of the core libraries uses different registry settings and will cause an early version to crash.
09 April 2002 - Version 1.4.2.0 released.
* New Features:
o "Add to Friends List" on toolbar and Messages menu. This adds the senders email address from the selected email to the Friends filter list. Subsequent emails from the sender will always be accepted.
o Added Cut, Paste, Undo, Redo to the edit menu. These work with the updated Blacklist Edit control (see below).
* Bugs Fixed:
o Fixed blacklist display bug. When running on Windows 98/ME the Edit Control used to display the blacklist would fail it the file was more than 64K long, this resulted in a total loss of the blacklist data. The control has been replaced with one that will handle "large files". The new edit control allows use of Cut, Copy, Paste, Select All, Undo, Redo found on the Edit Menu or by right clicking in the Edit Control.
o Fixed bug in "Add to Blacklist", the blacklist file is now always updated whenever the function is used.
22 February 2002 - Version 1.4.1.0 released.
* New Feature
o Altered behaviour of "Add to Blacklist" The function now adds the senders address to the blacklist and then marks the email for deletion in the next mail check.
* Bugs Fixed
o Fixed bug in "Add to blacklist" confirmation message box, the option setting to stop the appearance of this message is now saved correctly.
o Fixed bug in Domain Name blacklist filter checks. In certain cases the filter would delete on a partial match, for example mail from the domain "rainbow-innov.co.uk" would be blocked if the filter contained the name "ainbow-innov.co.uk". This can no longer happen.
21 February 2002 - Version 1.4.0.0 released
* New Features
* Added new setting in General Options linked to "Start Email Client. "Hide Mail Snoop main window" hides Mail Snoop if the email client program is started on receipt of new mail and also if the email client is started by the user from within Mail Snoop.
o Added new setting to Connection Options linked to "Never Dial". "Dial for startup mail check only" lets Mail Snoop connect using a modem for a startup mail check only.
o Altered behaviour of confirmation message box that appears after using "Add to Blacklist" button, to stop further appearance of the message box select "Don't show this confirmation anymore"
* Miscellaneous
o Replaced Ras/Dialup networking libraries with an updated version of those used prior to V1.32
