Application: Electro!

Version: 2.2

Purpose: Dissect/re-assemble files.

NOTE: The local machine on which Electro! operates MUST HAVE the Java Runtime Environment (JRE), or Java Development Kit (JDK, which includes the JRE) installed. The JRE need NOT be on a remote machine on which Electro! creates, or re-assembles file segments. The JRE can be downloaded from this URL: http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.3/jre Please install it on your system BEFORE running Electro!

Description:
Electro! allows you to easily and quickly cut a file into any number of segments. This can be particularly useful when a file must be transported via e-mail through the internet or across a network, but the file is more than the maximum allowed file size. Use Electro! to chop the file into tolerable pieces, send the files (segments), and then use Electro! on the other end (in the case of the Internet), or remotely via mapped drives (in the case of a network) to re-assemble the file segments.

Electro! does NOT dissect the original file, leaving you without a whole, unaffected original. Each file segment is a COPY of part of the original file. When the segments are re-assembled, you have ANOTHER whole file. Electro! also gives you the ability to append one file to another.

Electro!'s abilities can prove very useful in transferring large files between systems which are not networked. Also, when archiving large files, you need not archive a mega file on one disk. Use Electro! to chop the file into pieces, store the segments on any number of machines, and, when the file is required, Electro! can re-assemble the file segments for you!

Features:
- Segment local files, or remote files via mapped drives
- Re-assemble local files, or remote files via mapped drives

Special REQUIREMENTS:
- VB5 runtime files must be downloaded from this URL:
http://www.simtel.net/simtel.net/win95/dll.html (vb500a.zip).

Installation: Run setup.exe

NOTE: If, during installation, you get a message telling you that a file is already present in a folder (e.g. the system folder) simply click ignore/yes, and continue with the installation. The message means that the file is probably a shared file that's already on your system.

Un-installation: Select the Add/Remove Programs icon in Control Panel

Program status: Demo
