The product
-----------

Slide Librarian lets you catalogue your slide (transparency) library on your
PC. This makes it easy to search for specific slides by title or keywords
and to create slide shows and talks.

You can also use the system to keep track of where your slides are. Some may
be out on loan for example. SpanSoft also produce a professional version of
this program aimed at organisations who run a lending library. Please
contact us for details of Slide Librarian Pro or visit our Web site.

As well as recording details of each slide (such as title, keywords, image
quality, etc), Slide Librarian will also store an image of each slide. So if
you have the equipment to scan or digitise your slides you can actually see
the pictures on your PC. As well as "slide-sized" thumbnails of each slide
you can store full-screen images of each slide. Just double-clicking on a
thumbnail brings up the full-sized image.

Slide Librarian will print out slide labels to your specification. Each
slide is given a number and category prefix so that once your slides are
labelled, it's easy to pick out the ones you need for a slide show. You can
include any of the slide details on the label as well as a "stamp" such as
your name, copyright, etc.

Slide shows or talks are constructed on a "light table". You use keywords or
simple SQL statements to find the slides you want from the database and then
drop the slides onto the light table. You can now move the slides about into
the order you want and then save that particular slide show in case you need
it again.

Slide Librarian will print out a Running Order, Picking List or Contact
Sheet for the slide show currently on the light table.

The Running Order print shows the slides in the order they appear on the
light table. This is the order in which the slides should be loaded into the
projector. The Picking List print shows the same slides sorted by slide
number so that you can retrieve the slides from your library easily. The
Contact Sheet is a printed copy of the light table.

Any slides which have been booked out (ie. they are not currently available)
are indicated on the light table.

You can run an interactive slideshow of full-sized images based on the
slides currently on the light table.

You can get a quick summary of a slide's data just be right-clicking on the
image on the light table and of course the full-sized image by double-
clicking.

If you do not have the equipment to scan your slides, Slide Librarian will
work just as well without slide images. In place of the pictures you will
see the slide title.

If you already have a database catalogue of slides on your PC, Slide
Librarian can import your existing data via a delimited text file. Slide
images can be added easily at a future date.

New features, enhancements and bug fixes
----------------------------------------
(see the on-line help for a complete list)

Version 2.3 August 1999
------------------------
Upgrade release.

The program has been recompiled using the latest compiler version which
means that it is now bundled with BDE V5.01. This fixes the problem when
using the software in WIN98 with FAT32 turned on.

Changing the "Script" option in font settings is now permanent (also a
compiler bug).

The "Defaults for new slides" fields are now selected by the user. You can
have default values for any of the fields in the database grid (up to 20
fields).

New preference setting to use the full-sized images when printing a contact
sheet instead of the thumbnails. Gives a higher resolution printed image but
runs slower.

"Edit" menu added to Database window for performing operations on the
database grid. Includes Undo, Delete, Insert functions which were only
previously available using key presses.

Cut, Copy and Paste functions added. These commands operate on the currently
selected database record.

"File | Pack database" function added. This command rebuilds the slide
database (and associated tables). This is useful for purging records which
have already been deleted and can also fix some database corruption
problems.

"File | Create from text file" now gives you the option of auto-creating new
slide ID numbers instead of reading them from the text file.

The Database and Query windows are now correctly resized when used on a
system with the "Large fonts" display setting.

Version 2.2 October 1998
-------------------------
Upgrade release.

Slideshow viewer added. You can display a full-sized image slideshow using
the Light Table. Images are displayed in the order shown on the Light Table
and image advancement is controlled using the mouse and/or automatically at
a pre-set delay.

Create slide records from existing full-sized image files function added.
Just specify the folder where the existing files are stored and Slide
Librarian will (1) create a new slide record for each file, (2) copy the
files to the standard full-sized image folder (converting them to the
standard export file type if necessary) and giving them a filename
corresponding to the slide record, (3) create thumbnail images for the new
records.

Selecting a slide in the Query Window now moves the Database Grid to the
same slide making it easy to search for slides for editing.

Double-clicking on a slide on the Light Table which had no full-sized image
locked up the Light Table - fixed.

Exiting the program caused a crash if the printer used for printing slide
labels no longer existed - fixed.
