DESCRIPTION
-----------
The Crossword Power Tools (CPT) is software for
creation of crosswords from scratch. CPT-Diagrams
is a program from the CPT kit. Its main and unique
goal is to generate diagrams - the layout of black
and white cells of the crossword grid. It's unique
in the sense that we don't know any other crossword
related program able to do this automatic generation.

Features:
- Generates diagrams in different styles;
- It has several algorithms for generation with
  parameters;
- Supports over 20 conditions for the properties of
  the generated diagrams;
- Data management modules can handle without problem
  crossword sets containing tens of thousands diagrams;
- Built in queries over the crossword sets;
- Includes the CPT-Editor which allows browsing and
  editing files in many data formats, filling and
  printing crosswords in your own language.

There is HTML documentation and you can find more
details there. The supplied diagrams, grids and
crosswords are generated by the CPT programs and
are free.

SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
-------------------
- Supported OS: Win 95, Win 98, Win NT 4.0
  (for Linux there is a separate distribution);
- Requires 1 MB of disk space and 32 MB RAM;
- This is Java program and Sun's JDK/JRE 1.1.3 or
  greater or compatible is needed. The Sun's Java
  Runtime Environment is available for download at:
      http://java.sun.com/products/jdk/1.1/jre/
      (Win32 version 1.1.7B is about 5 MB)
  Please, look at our JavaFonts.txt for tuning
  your JDK/JRE installation.
NOTE: JRE 1.2 on Win 95/98 has problems with non
ANSI characters and if you want to display
international characters, use 1.1. For Win NT
JRE 1.2 is fine and you can use all native fonts.

  If you prefer MS JVM (JView), but your version
  does not support JNI (it gives "...UnsatisfiedLinkError"),
  take the new one from:
    http://www.microsoft.com/java/vm/dl_vm31.htm
    (vm31 version is 6.4 MB)
NOTE: MS JVM is faster but supports limited number of
character encodings and you might get an error message by
CPT like "...Converter not found!" and the converting of
crossword encoding to another is disabled.

INSTALL
-------
1. Extract this zip file into temporary directory.

2. Run "install.bat" from the temporary directory.
   This will start the wizard and according to your
   choices, the CPT-Diagrams program will be installed.

3. If you encounter Java errors when running
   "install.bat", try commented out lines in the file.

4. The installation progarm (install.class) is a
   self-extracting class file whose contents get
   extracted during the installation and two
   directories will be created:
   - the target one you choosed for the installation;
   - <home>\ITJ directory for the uninstall program
   (see UNINSTALL below).

5. During the installation you will be asked for a
   License Key, if you don't have, leave the field
   empty - the program will run in Demo mode. In this
   mode some of the saving and printing operations are
   disabled (you can run the generator, the editor, the
   print-preview, you can save your work in text files,
   but the exporting to other formats and creating/saving
   libraries are locked).

6. If you have problem running CPT-Diagrams,
   check/modify the generated cpt_d11.bat file to
   reflect your JDK/JRE environment, especially
   if you install a new version of JRE after you
   install this program.

UNINSTALL
---------
To uninstall, do one of the following:

1. Click on the uninstall icon added to the
   start menu or desktop folder.

2. Go to the Add/Remove Programs dialog in the
   Windows Control Panel and remove the program.

3. Run in command line
   <home>\ITJ\juninst <CPT-home>\UnInst
   where <CPT-home> is the installation directory,
   and <home> for NT is:
     c:\winnt\Profiles\<user-name>
   and for Win 95 <home> is:
     c:\windows

If you have installed a new version of JRE after
the installation of this program, check/modify
juninst.bat in your <home>\ITJ sub directory.
After the uninstallation the ITJ directory
will not be removed because it serves all CPT
packages. If you don't have any other CPT
program, you can delete it.
