1. WHAT IS CATRAXX?
----------------------------------------

CATraxx is a powerful database program designed to help you catalog
and manage your music collection. CATraxx will let you catalog all
media types, including CDs, LPs, cassettes, mini discs, and MP3s.
CATraxx supports CDDB2 - the worlds largest music database. Simply
insert a CD into the CD-ROM drive, and CATraxx will download the
CD data (artist, title, label, release year, song titles, etc.)
from the Internet. Designed for the Windows environment, CATraxx
is comprehensive, intuitive, and easy to use.

CATraxx has a comprehensive set of data fields for both albums and
tracks, enabling you to catalog a wide range of information: artist,
album title, format (CD, LP, cassette, mini disc, etc.), release
year, label, catalog number, purchase price, current value, music
category, playing time, song titles, songwriters, producers,
recording studios, musicians and instruments. You can store an image
of the album cover, attach a MP3 file to each track, and add your own
personal comments for both albums and tracks.

You can use CATraxx to catalog your MP3 file collection. CATraxx can
automatically create albums from folders containing MP3 files (this
could be folders on your hard drive, or folders on a CD-R disc).
CATraxx will read artist, title, year, and genre from the MP3 ID3
tag. You can play MP3s, create MP3 play lists, and export play lists
for use by Winamp (or other players).

You can work with an unlimited number of databases. This means you can
split your collection into different catalogs. CATraxx allows you to
change the data field names to suit your personal preferences. You can
also hide the data fields you don't want to use. Ultimately, this means
you can customize the CATraxx database to suit your needs.

You can effectively find the information you are looking for by using
the search and filter features. CATraxx allows you search your
database with any combination of data fields and operators.

CATraxx includes a report designer that lets you create professional
looking reports with exactly the layout you want. Use one of the
more than 100 pre-defined reports, or create your own reports from
scratch. You have full control over data fields, groups, sort order,
columns, fonts, colors, paper size, margins and print orientation.
CATraxx lets you preview reports on screen before printing, or save
reports in virtually any file format.

You can quickly generate documents to be published on the Internet.
The loan module lets you keep track of albums on loan. Check the
program periodically to see what is still out on loan. You will always
know who has what and since when.

The statistics module allows you to analyze your collection in a
variety of ways. CATraxx lets you track your initial investment and
the total value of your collection. Use the backup function to make
backup copies of your valuable data. With the built-in CD controller
you can control the playback of audio CDs in your CD-ROM player.

CATraxx uses popup menus for quick feature access and navigation.
CATraxx comes with a sample database to get you started and a
comprehensive, context sensitive on-line help system.

2. FEE FOR DISTRIBUTION OF SHAREWARE VERSION
----------------------------------------------------

Disk Vendors, Shareware Distributors and BBS(s) may have
charged a nominal fee for the distribution of the shareware
version of CATraxx. This fee does not constitute payment for
the licensed version of CATraxx, and does not entitle the
end-user to use the shareware version for longer than the
30-day evaluation period.

5. VERSION HISTORY
----------------------------------------------------

4.61.00 - February 24, 2001

* Upgraded to the latest version of the report engine. The result
when printing to a file is now better (especially when printing
  to a PDF file).
* BUG FIX: CDDB download: 'Access Violation' when selecting a CD in
  the 'Match' window.
* BUG FIX: HTML Generator: Thumbnails not saved if images were stored
  externally.
* BUG FIX: Right-clicking the album Live field to update the track Live
  fields didn't work.
* BUG FIX: 'Copy Tracks to Clipboard' function didn't work if only
tracks on side A were registered.
* BUG FIX: The track Released field was always overwritten when using
  a track template.
* BUG FIX: Mouse cursor not reset when closing the 'Data Exchange Export'
  window.

4.60.00 - January 24, 2001

* You can now export/import data to/from dex files. This data exchange
format allows you to easily share data with other CATraxx users.
This is useful for sharing LP data that cannot be downloaded from
CDDB. Each album you export will be saved in a separate file.
CATraxx will automatically use the album artist and title as file
name, for example "U2-The Joshua Tree.dex". A dex file contains the
  following data fields:
Album: Artist, Title, Title Sort, Released, Format, Label,
           Soundtrack, Compilation, Genre/Sub Genre, Reviews,
and Cover 1/2/3 (only BMP and JPEG images).
Track: Artist, Title, Title Sort, Version, Length, Live,
           Genre/Sub Genre, Lyrics, Author/Publisher,
           Conductor/Arranger, Studio, Production, Band Member,
           and Guest Musician.
For more information, see "Using CATraxx/Working with Databases/
Importing and Exporting Data" in the help file.
* You can add links to web sites. To go to a web site, simply double-
click the site name in the Album window (on the Web tab).
* You can now right-click the artist name in the Album/Track Edit
window, or the grouping list, to go to the artist website (choose
'<artist> website' from the popup menu).
* If you have specified the artist home page, CATraxx will use the URL
when generating HTML documents (if you include the Artist field).
* CATraxx now handles images stored externally (that is, the database
only contains a link to the image file) the same way as images
stored in the database if you link to either a BMP or JPEG file.
This means that a thumbnail will be automatically created when you
link to an external file, you can view images without using an external
image viewer, and that external images can be included in reports.
* You can now preview the image in the file selection dialog when you
  add new images.
* When scanning folders for MP3 files, CATraxx will update the album
artist/title fields if all MP3 files in a folder are from the same
  album.
* You can sort on so-called one-2-many fields (Songwriter, Producer,
  Musician, etc.).
* You can display the Subtitles field in the Track View window.
* Added a link to the user forum (on the Sites menu).
* Added the track Version field to the 'Download from CDDB' window.
* You can copy a play list (artist, title, and time) to the clipboard.
* The track list can now be copied to the clipboard in a columnar
format (right-click the track list in the 'Tracks' window, and choose
Copy Track Titles to Clipboard / Columnar from the popup menu).
* You can now right-click the album Live field to update all track Live
  fields on the album.
* Added a Clear Comments command to the CDDB sub menu ('Download from
CDDB' window and 'Track Edit' window).
* The Album.Tracks field can now be exported.
* BUG FIX: Problem with decimals in Statistics module.
* BUG FIX: Problems grouping on a boolean (yes/no) field.
* BUG FIX: Total playing time not updated if cloning tracks.
* BUG FIX: Next free reference numbers not always saved.

4.51.00 - November 13, 2000

* Upgraded to the latest CDDB Control version (1.1.0.28).
* Added support for Windows Media Audio (WMA) files.
* CATraxx can now try to extract the artist/title from the
file name when cataloging MP3 files if the MP3 file does not
contain a valid ID3 tag (make sure the 'Extract artist/title
from file name' option in the 'Scan Folder' window is checked).
* BUG FIX: Error when trying to run CDDB Music Browser.
* BUG FIX: Save/Cancel buttons not visible in 'Edit Credits'
  window if using Large Fonts.
* BUG FIX: Play/Stop buttons not visible in 'Playlist Manager'
  window if using Large Fonts.
* BUG FIX: Field names not updated and deactivated fields not
  hidden in 'Track Template' window.
* BUG FIX: Problem with decimals in Statistics module.
* BUG FIX: Problem with Playing Time and Length fields if Time
Separator in Control Panel was not set to ":".

4.50.00 - October 25, 2000

* New MP3 features:
  - CATraxx can now automatically create albums from folders
containing MP3 files (choose Scan Folder from the MP3 menu).
CATraxx will read artist, title, year, genre, and comments
from the ID3 tag (if the file contains this information).
In addition to reading ID3 tags, CATraxx can also update ID3
tags (choose 'Update ID3 Tag' from the File menu in the
    'Track Edit' window).
  - It is now easier to play MP3 files. Simply right-click a track
in the 'Tracks' window or the 'Track View' window and choose
Play MP3 from the popup menu.
  - You can create MP3 playlists. To create a playlist, choose
'Playlist Manager' from the MP3 menu. Then, simply drag tracks
from the 'Tracks' window over to the 'Playlist Manager' window.
(This functionality is also available in the 'Track View' window.)
To export the playlist as a standard m3u file, right-click the
playlist and choose Export from the popup menu.
* All audio and video files must now be saved as external files. That
is, you can no longer store such files within the database. If the
database contains audio or video files, CATraxx will automatically
create a folder named Multimedia and save all audio and video files
  in this folder.
* The 'Edit Credits' window is new in this version. Here you can
register credits information like songwriters, studios, producers,
and musicians. This makes registering credits much easier (and
  quicker!) than before.
  - To bring up the 'Edit Credits' window, select the desired album
from the 'Browse' window, and choose 'Edit Credits' from the Edit
    menu.
  - In the 'Edit Credits' window, select the appropriate tab, then
simply type the credit name in the list on the left. The list on
the right shows which tracks the person (or studio) is linked to.
By default, all tracks are checked. This means that if, for
example, a producer has produced all tracks on the album, all
you have to do is to type the name of the producer. If he has
produced all tracks, except track 3 and 4, you can simply uncheck
track 3 and 4. If he has produced only track 7 and 9, right-click
the list and choose 'Uncheck All' from the popup menu, then simply
    check track 7 and 9.
* CDDB Music Browser: The CDDB Music Browser displays a web page of
information related to the selected CD. In the Music Browser you
will find information like album art and credits, biographies,
discographies, touring information, music recommendations, fan sites,
and other cool content links. To display the CDDB Music Browser,
right-click the desired CD in the 'Browse' window and choose 'CDDB
Music Browser' from the popup menu.
* A new Build Lineup function that automatically updates the lineup
for an artist based on the musicians already registered on tracks by
this artist. To use this feature, click the Lineup button in the
'Edit Artist' window, right-click the lineup list, and choose
'Build Lineup' from the popup menu.
* A new field named 'Artist 2' is now available in track reports.
This field prints the track artist only if it is *different* from
  the album artist.

4.12.02 - September 20, 2000

* BUG FIX: Problem updating track genres in 'Download from CDDB' window.
* BUG FIX: Problem modifying track genre in 'Track Edit' window.
* BUG FIX: Drag-and-drop in 'Tracks' window didn't work.

4.12.01 - September 7, 2000

* Upgraded to the latest CDDB Control version (1.1.0.25).
* The contents of the Version field is now automatically appended to
the track title when submitting disc data to CDDB (for example
"Discotheque (DM Deep Extended Club Mix)".
* You can now include the cover image in the HTML Generator.
* BUG FIX: There was a problem grouping a report by one-to-many
fields like Songwriter, Producer, or Musician.
* BUG FIX: Reference number not generated if a CD was downloaded
from the main window (Album / New - Query CDDB).
* BUG FIX: Not possible to open track templates created with
  CATraxx 98.

4.12.00 - June 27, 2000

* Fixed submit to CDDB problem.
NOTE! You must upgrade to this version if you want to submit disc
  data to CDDB.
* You can now, in the 'Download from CDDB' window, update the track
year for all tracks on the current CD in one operation (choose
Update Year from the Track menu).

4.11.00 - May 23, 2000

* It is now possible to specify which words that should not be
capitalized when downloading disc data (in the 'Download from
CDDB' window, choose 'Do not Capitalize' from the Options menu).
* The 'Use Lineup' command is now available when the Track View
  is active.
* The 'Check for Update' command now uses the proxy settings
  specified in Preferences.
* BUG FIX: On some NT 4 systems, the left part of tree view lists
  had a black background.
* BUG FIX: Read-only license file not accepted.
* BUG FIX: The program didn't work with Windows Media Player 7 Beta.
* BUG FIX: CD AutoPlay not disabled while CATraxx was running.
* BUG FIX: The Track View window sometimes disappeared if a grouping
  definition was active.
* BUG FIX: Contents of boolean fields (Yes/No fields) not displayed
in Show Info dialog box in CD Player.
* Various minor fixes and enhancements.

4.10.00 - May 3, 2000

* CATraxx now uses CDDB2. The new CDDB2 database begins with the
massive database already established for CDDB, and updates it
with a great deal more information for each disc, including
expanded album and track-by-track credits, genres, web-links,
and segments. Here is an overview of the most interesting new
  CDDB2 features for CATraxx users:
  - Separate Artist and Title fields. This means that you can
finally say goodbye to problems with varying artist/title
    separators when downloading compilation CDs.
  - New album fields: Release year, Label, and Compilation.
  - New track fields: Year, Beats per Minute, and Lyrics.
  - Better genre classifications (CDDB2 has 252 genres and
sub-genres, with categories for metal, house and rap among
    others).
  - Credits; a list of persons/companies with their roles, for
example composer, director, producer, engineer, studio, and
    musicians/instruments.
  - Other nice features like links to artist sites and a music
browser (open the Sites menu to use these features).
* You can download disc data from the main window (choose
New - Query CDDB from the Album menu) if you don't want to use
the separate Download from CDDB window.
* You can update existing CDs by downloading additional information
from CDDB (choose Update - Query CDDB from the Album menu).
NOTE! You will have the rescan the CD for this to work.
* You can now preview the disc data before a CD is submitted to CDDB.
* Simplified the data entry process. You no longer have to use a
separate dialog box to register credits information like songwriter,
producer and musician. Simply type the information directly into
the list (the same way you register artists).
* The Genre/Sub-genre fields (previously called Category/Sub-category)
are now linked together. If you select a genre, for example House,
only the sub-genres belonging to this genre are available in the
  Sub-genre list.
* New track fields: Author, Copyright, Librettist, Publisher, Score,
Songwriter (Music & Lyrics), Conductor, Director, Orchestrator,
Assistant Engineer, Associate Producer, Coproduser, Executive
  Producer and Programming.
* Track.Songwriter renamed to Track.Author/Publisher.
* Track.Music by renamed to Track.Composer.
* Track.Lyrics by renamed to Track.Lyricist.
* Album.Category renamed to Album.Genre.
* Album.Sub-category renamed to Album.Sub-genre.
* Track.Category renamed to Track.Genre.
* Track.Sub-category renamed to Track.Sub-genre.
* Album.Sort by renamed to Album.Title Sort.
* Track.Sort by renamed to Track.Title Sort.
* In album and track browse lists, the filter is now linked to
the active grouping definition. For example, if you have
grouped by Artist, and select a filter that only lists
live albums, only the name of the artists that have released
live albums are displayed in the grouping list.
* The Title Sort field is automatically updated when you modify
  the album/track title.
* It is now possible to split CDs if you used the 'Merge CDs'
  command by mistake.
* Sample database updated, and renamed to Sample2000.mdb.

4.01.00 - December 7, 1999

* You can now edit lyrics in the CD Player Lyrics window
(right-click and choose Edit from the popup menu).
* CD Player is automatically closed when you compact/repair a
  database, or exit CATraxx.
* You can now use Ctrl+A to select all text in text boxes.
* BUG FIX: Problem printing JPEG images (run time-error: "the
  handle is invalid").
* BUG FIX: Show Track Info button in CD Player didn't work.
* BUG FIX: Total playing time not always updated when merging
  albums.
* BUG FIX: Speed search feature in Track View window stopped
working after going into edit mode for a track, then returning
  to the Track View window.
* BUG FIX: First track of an album being edited replaced with
the first track of another album when double clicking on the
track to edit in the Tracks window.

4.00.02 - November 19, 1999

* BUG FIX: Error when backing up to a diskette that contained
  an old backup file.
* BUG FIX: Not possible to deactivate subset when no albums/
  tracks were marked.

  spaces in the file name.

* BUG FIX: "List index out of bounds" when searching for tracks
if no track sort order was active.
* BUG FIX: "Access Violation" if opening another database when a
  grouping definition was active.
* BUG FIX: Backup reported disk full under Windows 95.
* BUG FIX: List of tracks in the Tracks window not updated after
  two CDs were merged.
* BUG FIX: Top border line on the Title band appeared only over the
first column in a report with multiple columns.
* BUG FIX: Problems printing to Adobe Acrobat file.

4.00.00 - October 6, 1999

* CATraxx 2000 released.
