1.INTRODUCTION

The purpose of this program is to provide web site authors and graphic designers with a straightforward method of accessing the 16.7 million colours which Windows95/98 provides.

Many web authoring and paint packages provide either a fairly limited palette of colours to choose from and/or a method of choosing custom colours by positioning the mouse pointer over a graduated palette.

Hex Colour Designer provides complete control over colour creation by the use of scroll bars which adjust the red, green and blue components of a colour.

Immediate visual feedback is given, together with;

a) The hexadecimal value of the colour being created, for entering directly as HTML code into a web page e.g. in the <body bgcolor=> or <font color=> tags.

b) The decimal value of the individual red, green and blue components for entering into the custom colour tool of Microsoft Frontpage Express, for example.

The colour file can be saved in HTML format as a web page background for direct loading into a web authoring package.

2.SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

Windows95/8.

Visual Basic 5 Runtime & OLE Automation Files. If you do not already have these installed, they are freely available to download from the internet (try http://www.simtel.net) or numberous magazine coverdisks.

Obviously to access the full 16.7 million colour depth with absolute precision a screen resolution of 24 bit or better is required.However,16-bit (High Colour) screen resolution seems to work to a very acceptable level.
256 colour resolution produces substantial dithering.

3.INSTALLATION

The program is now ready to run by double-clicking on the Hex Colour Designer icon.

The application will also run direct from the floppy by double-clicking on the program icon.

The installation proceedure does not add a shortcut to either the Start Menu or the desktop and you may wish to add these manually.
