TimeServer v 1.0.0.8 - Readme.txt
----------------------------------------------------------------------

TimeServer is the server side application of an Internet Caf management system. It gives the operator full control over the workstations. It shuts the screen and disable the keyboard and system keys when de-activated. While active, it displays a little timer on the workstation screen to enable the user to keep track of the online time left. It uses TCP/IP to communicate. It has password security and an operator panel to enable the operator to bypass the program should a server breakdown occur. The server and client can operate independantly in case of a unforseen error on one or both. In order for the program to function properly, the client side also needs to be downloaded from the same FTP site (TimeClient.zip - 1,110 kb).

Known bugs:
It has been tested on Windows 95,98 and NT4 server and workstation. It is TCP/IP based. It uses ports in the 6700 to 6800 range for it's TCP/IP connection. The only "bug" we seemed to have with it, was that with some DOS - based games like Quake, the timer on the workstations does not show. This is because of the fact that DOS tends to "take over" the system processor. In other words, TimeServer actually runs in the background. When the time expires, with some DOS - based games, it de-activates the screen, but it does not take over the whole screen, this can be rectified by clicking once on the screen and activating and then de-activating the operator panel on the client machine, or by just activating and then resetting the client software from the server. I do not want to "force" the software to kill DOS, because this can actually harm the machine.

Installation instructions:
1. Unzip the TimeServer.zip file to a temporary directory.
2. Double-click the Setup.exe file for the installation to start.
3. Install to a directory on the SERVER machine.
4. Once installation has completed, run the program.
5. Go to Help, Options on the menu.
6. Specify the rates, etc. here and update to the system.
7. Go to Manage Workstations on the menu.
8. For each workstation, select the workstation from the drop-down box, fill in the IP address (for help refer to the help file), and click the update button. Repeat for all workstations.
9. Install the TimeClient.zip file on the workstations.
10. PLEASE NOTE that the initial password is a blank. You can set the password at the server on
    the Opions menu.
11. PLEASE NOTE that the term "client" refers to a workstation, as in client - server.
12. To synchronize the time on the server to the workstations, have a look at the helpfile under "synchronizing time".

Special requirements:
TCP/IP has to be installed on both server and workstation machines.
