Readme file for IP Search Toolbar Beta 2
****************************************

-----------------
About the Program
-----------------

The IP Search Toolbar program performs (1) address lookups and
reverse address lookups, (2) whois queries, (3) finger
queries, (4) Ph queries, (5) Time retrieval and synchronization,
and (6) ICMP PInGs, including fast pings of multiple
addresses. The program supports the use of a SOCKS 4
server except with ping.

The IP Search Toolbar program runs in Windows 95 and Windows
NT 4.0. However, very little testing of the program has
been done under Windows NT, and under NT you will only be able
to save your settings if you have sufficient rights for IP Search
Toolbar to modify it's registry entries.

------------
Installation
------------

IP Search Toolbar exists in two forms: (1) A small version,
which requires you to install IP Search Toolbar manually,
and (2) a large version which includes an InstallShield
installation. If one of the files you have is called Setup.exe,
you have the large version, and you should run Setup.exe to
install the application. If you have the small version, you
have the files listed in the Included Files section above, and
you should read the rest of this file carefull for instructions.

If you decide you want to use this program regularly, you
can put a shortcut on your desktop by following these steps:

	1) Open the Windows 95 Explorer
	2) Copy the files to your hard drive
	3) Select the files, then select Copy from the edit
	   menu.
	4) Go to the desktop, click the right mouse button,
and choose paste shortcut from the menu that
	   appears.

If you do not want the program on the desktop, then copy it
into your Programs folder so that you can access it using the
Start button. The Programs folder is usually

	C:\Windows\Start Menu\Programs

unless your computer is configured to have a separate Start
Menu for each user, in which case it is probably

	C:\Windows\Profiles\<username>\Start Menu\Programs

If you do create a shortcut for the program, you may want to
rename the shortcut so that it is called "IP Search Toolbar"
instead of "IPToolbar.exe".

--------------------------------------------
Running IP Search Toolbar for the First Time
--------------------------------------------

The first time you run IP Search Toolbar, a message box will be
displayed which says that your preferences could not be loaded.
This is because you have not yet stored your preferences.
Clicking OK will take you to the Preferences dialog box. Make
any changes to the selections you see there, then click on the
Save button. This will save your selections in the Windows 95
Registry. Detailed help with preferences can be obtained by
pressing the F1 key when in the Preferences dialog box.

In general, the F1 key will give you context sensitive help.
Help is available for all of the major functions in IP Search.
