My Dictionary 1.2 for Windows 9x/NT/2k is a personal
encyclopedia-like tool to store, organize and manage
your vocabulary in English and your mother tongue.
=====================================================

My Dictionary is a personal tool to store, organize and
manage your vocabulary in English and your mother tongue.
Like in an encyclopedia, each word and the English
translation can be further explained by an unlimited
amount of text, a figure or a picture, and a voice stream.
All words, text and media clips are organized in database
tables that can be easily edited, updated, sorted and searched.

Adding of words is done by a click on buttons "Add-", "Copy-" or
"Insert a record". Then the program works like a spreadsheet!
You type a word into the cell of a database table and go to
another cell using the mouse, tab- or arrow keys for entering
another word. Data in a record is saved in the database when
moving away from this record.

The program's main interface consists of three tabs for
1) Viewing and Searching for Words,
2) Adding and Changing Words,
3) Adding and Changing Categories.

When using the program for the first time, a user starts
normally with the 3rd tab entering categories of her/his
own choice. Categories are organized in main categories
with up to 2 sub-categories, for example, biology (main)
with animals (1. sub) and cats (2. sub). Further
categories can be also added later.

Then a user would go to the 2nd tab to enter and edit
words. Here each word and the English translation can be
further explained by an unlimited amount of text, a
figure or picture, and a voice stream. These objects
are NOT stored in the database to guarantee maximum
performance. Only file and path names of objects are
stored in the database.

Searching for words under the 1st tab can be done in two ways.
A click on a column header sorts the database table in the
alphabetical order of that column. Or after entering some
text in a search box, the pointer of the database table jumps
to the first occurrence of this text. For refined searches,
different categories can be selected.

The program uses a MS Access 97 database that is open and
NOT password protected so that a user is able to ex- and
import data as wanted. You cannot(!) change the format
from Access 97 to Access 2000, for example, and still use
it with My Dictionary because it requires 2000 database
driver files that are not used here.

A backup of the latest database file is automatically
created in the program's root directory each time the
program starts. Its name has the following format:
"Date Time BackUp Dictionary.mdb".

An example database for English / Turkish can be found in
the example folder of the program's root directory. It can
be opened by clicking on "File/Open". Other File commands
are "File/New", "File/Save", "File/Save As" and
"File/Properties".

IMPORTANT NOTE:

If the program doesn't start correctly, you need to install

and install the database driver files by clicking on the button
