System requirements: Operating system: W95 or NT, an unzipping
program.
The program was developed on a P200 although I suspect it will
run on a 486 processor. Memory: 2.4Mb for optimum performance
this is the amount by which your free memory will reduce.
The program will run on a fraction of this but with reduced
performance.

Executable file: MGCEq6.EXE (475,136bytes)

Hi,
Welcome to 'the function junction'. I'm Gordon, the author of
the software. A few minutes reading the following will
give you some pointers about using and installing the program.

I hope you find it useful. You can visit my Web site
http://members.aol.com/mgcsoft/ for updates or to download
the latest version. Check the link to 'History' for changes.

       Yours sincerely
                        Gordon Whittam.

A few notes about the editor: Installation: If your reading this,
you've already done the hard bit!

If you obtained the program without an installer.

The font file MGCSerif.ttf must be installed on your system. To
do this on the task bar select <start><settings><ControlPanel>
double click <Fonts> then <File><Install New Font>. This will
open the font dialog slection box. Find the directory where the
program was unzipped to and wait a moment while windows finds the
file. Click OK once MGCSerif.ttf shows in the list box.
The program icons will not appear on your program menu items. In
order to run the program you (from the task bar) click <start> <run>
and either type in the path and file name to MGCEq6.exe or click
<browse> and locate the program file MGCEq6.exe <Open>, and then Ok.
The program will run.

To place icons on the program menu Click <start><settings><taskbar
& start menu> click the start menu programs tab <Advanced>. Make sure
the program group is expanded if it isn't allready by clicking the
+ sign in the small square box in the left hand section of the window.
Click on the folder icon at the head of the list. From the main menu
click <file><new><folder>. A new folder will appear highlighted in
the right hand window. Type in the name you wish to use. I suggest
using MGCSoft (exactly) as, if you receive an upgrade or an add on
with an installer it will be placed under this name. In the left
hand window, Double click the folder with the name you have just
chosen. Click <file><new><short cut><browse> find the folder you
chose to install the program and select MGCEq6.exe. Click <next> and
type in 'the function junction' (without ' ') then <finish>. Close
explorer and Ok in the Taskbar Properties window and that's it. You
will now be able to select the program from the Programs menu.

If you obtained the program with an installer.

You need do nothing other than, either; Open the Font folder on your
machine or re-start the machine. This is neccessary because, although
the font is copied to your font folder Windows doesn't recognise that
it's there till the folder has been accessed. To access the Font
folder: from the 'taskbar' do <Start><Settings><Control Panel> double
click the 'Fonts' icon. This opens the Fonts folder. Click <File><Close>
and that's it done.

MGCSoft will appear on the programs menu. Click this and the function
junction sub menu to run the program.

             ********** IMPORTANT ************

After installing 'the function junction' you will need to open the
font folder. It depends on your operating system. If after starting
the program the button captions look wrong do the following:

    Open the Fonts folder by <Start> <Settings> <Control Panel>
    double click on the 'Fonts' icon then;
from the File menu select <File><Close> and that's it.
To run the program select the icon from the program menu.

Primarily the program is a cut and paste utility. Designed to enable
educationalists and students to easily (relatively!) produce presentable
documents which included mathematical equations and simple sketches without
having to use different programs to do it.

The importing of pictures was included to enable simple logos and graphics
to be included in an exported file for subsequent use in www pages, as was
jpeg support. I'd like to include gif support but at the moment it will
have to wait.

Printing has been added in response to requests from users. Saving to
file was added when the page size increased as a considerable amount of
work could then be done with a risk of losing it if the system crashed for
some reason or you were half way through and had to stop. On line help is
available at any time while using the program by pressing F1. If you want
to read the help file you can without using the program. This is recommended
for first time users. In Particular read the Overview first. The help file
can be found in the same directory as the program, which if you accepted
the defaults will be in
c:\program Files\MGCSoft\the function junction.
