History of WinPAS Plus and WinPAS Plus32

The Public Address System (PAS) was born in 1987 as a DOS
program. The program was enhanced and improved over the
next seven years. The final DOS version (3.23) was
released in March 1994.

A Windows version of the DOS program was released in 1994.
The product was named WinPAS and carried a version number
of 1.0. In 1995 the format of the Name and Address (N&A)
record was expanded to provide storage for additional
information. The new version of the program was called
WinPAS Plus. The last version of Plus was 2.3.

In 1998 a 32-bit version of the program was released for
running under Windows 95 and beyond. The program was once
again renamed, this time to WinPAS Plus32. The version
number of the initial Plus32 release was 3.0.

Here's a brief summary of what's been added to various
flavors of WinPAS Plus since version 2.0

What's New In WinPAS PLUS Version 2.1

1. Gave user the ability to build, revise, and display mailing
lists by name as well as by ID number. Eliminated all
dependence on ID numbers. You can now perform all tasks
using names. Retained the ability to work by ID number if
    desired.

2. Revised Mailing List print function to print name and first
line of address as well as ID number.

3. Changed format of the telephone number "type" field (in the
N&A record) so user can select a predefined type or enter a
    custom type.

4. Added code to enforce a 90-day free trial period for new
users. Program will not allow access to N&A file after 90
days. This will not affect users who are already using
    WinPAS PLUS.

5. Changed Help file to no longer display in full screen mode.
For users who have giant screen monitors.

6. Corrected problem that prevented display of Mailing List
title and ID numbers when the title included a comma.

7. Provided ability to set QuickLinks by name or ID number.
    Refer to QuickLinks help topic.

8. Added new "Preference" menu with one item: Display. You
can now specify a sort preference for N&A display when
selecting entries for a QuickList entry or a Mailing List.

9. Revised Help topics to reflect above changes. Added some
    new topics.

What's New In WinPAS PLUS Version 2.2

These new features were added:

1. Print mailing labels in italics and/or uppercase. (The Post
Office may some day require uppercase labels.)

2. Adjust horizontal positioning of data printed on mailing
labels and rotary file cards. (You've always been able to
    adjust the vertical positioning.)

What's New In WinPAS PLUS Version 2.3

1. Duplex (2-Side) Printing

PLUS version 2.3 implements duplex (2-side) printing. This option
is especially valuable if you produce lengthy reports. Duplex
printing is available for all output formats except labels, rotary
file cards, and envelopes.

2. Quick Find Preferences

QuickFind displays one line (field) of data from each N&A record.
You specify what field to display and whether to sort the data
prior to display. Specification of these two parameters is now
done through the QuickFind option on the Preferences menu
(Preferences | QuickFind). The default (assumed) values specify
sorting the N&A file on Key 1 and displaying the Name field from
each record.

3. Error When Canceling A Print Under Windows 95

Windows 95 sometimes produces a printer error if you click the
Cancel button during report printing. PLUS version 2.3
intercepts this error, notifies you of its occurrence, and tells
you what to do about it.

                What's New In WinPAS Plus32 Version 3.0

This is the first release of Plus32. Version numbering was
continued from Plus to avoid confusion. Several bugs were
corrected from the previous version of WinPAS Plus.

Plus32 version 3.0 also added ToolTips (the rectangular
textboxes that display when you leave the mouse pointer on a
button for a few seconds), and additional Preferences options.

               What's New In WinPAS Plus32 Version 3.1

This version enhances the product by providing the capability to
print envelopes.
