Thank you for your interest in Max. If you are
evaluating the software, we encourage you to read
the documentation.

If you are already familiar with CA-Clipper, you
will appreciate our CLIPPER TO MAX MIGRATION GUIDE.

The MAX DEVELOPER'S OVERVIEW contains vital
information about compiling and running Max
applications (as well as further information on
operators and the preprocessor.)

The file compiling.txt contains a brief description
of the application building process. But it is
strongly recommended that you read the MAX
DEVELOPER'S OVERVIEW for detailed information.
INSTALLATION

All documentation can be downloaded from
http://www.plugsys.com/documentation.

The distribution format is .zip. We strongly
recommend that you use WinZIP
(http://www.winzip.com) to decompress the file- its
"Install" button allows you to launch the Windows
installer (setup.exe) transparently. If you are not
already familiar with WinZIP, you have been missing
wonderful sofware.

To decompress and install using WinZIP:
Click on the downloaded zip file and launch
     WinZip.
      Press the WinZip "Install" button.
    Follow the onscreen installer instructions.
To decompress and install without WinZIP:
      Navigate to your install directory.
Copy the distribution file to the parent
     installation directory
Uncompress the file using your favorite unzip
program.
Click on setup.exe in the Windows explorer.
The Max installer will launch.
    Follow the onscreen installer instructions.
AFTER INSTALLATION
The key files installed will be:
      the compiler: max
      the runtime: maxrun
SETTING UP ENVIRONMENT VARIABLES
PATH: Include your max\bin directory in the
     search path.

MAXINCLUDE: create this variable using the
fully qualified path to your max\include directory.
This variable is used by the compiler (max). ONLY
     SPECIFY ONE DIRECTORY.

MAXPATH: Specify a list of directories where
your .Max files will be located. This permits
MaxRun to locate your .Max objects anywhere on your
     system.
RECOMMENDATION
If you are evaluating Max, we remind you to use
good sense: do not work with production database
files. Instead, create a copy of your database
fileset in a working directory.
