Thank you for trying out the Witzend Search Library Demonstration!

The WitzSrch.EXE program uses the Witzend Search Library (tm), a library of
highly optimized search and replace functions created by Witzend Software.
WitzSrch demonstrates only one aspect of the Search Library's capabilities:
its ability to quickly locate files that contain given words or phrases. If
you remember a key word or two in a file but don't remember the file's name,
the WitzSrch program can find it for you in a heartbeat.

The main purpose of the WitzSrch program is to demonstrate the Search
Library's amazing speed, but you may find the program so useful you will want
to add it to your collection of tools on your hard disk. Feel free to do so.
We also encourage you to share with others the Setup1 program that creates
the WitzSrch.EXE program.

How to Run the Witzend Search Library Demo
------------------------------------------

The Setup1 program "self-extracts" to create the WitzSrch program files.
After it installs the files in the folder you specify, the Setup1 program
offers to place a WitzSrch command on your Programs menu. Accepting the offer
is purely optional, of course -- it merely ensures that the WitzSrch program
is always readily available for you. If you choose to accept, you can always
delete the entry later using the Add/Remove Programs applet in Control Panel.

The Setup1 program also offers to run the WitzSrch program for you. To run
WitzSrch at any other time, use your preferred method for executing utility
programs. For example, you can double-click the WitzSrch.EXE icon in Windows
Explorer. You can also use the Windows Run command like this:

	* Click the Start button at the bottom of your screen
	* Choose Run
	* Browse to the subdirectory where you placed the files
	* Double-click WitzSrch.EXE

When the WitzSrch program appears on your screen, type the word(s) you want
to search for in the Search tab, and in the Location tab browse for the
subdirectory where WitzSrch should begin searching. The Date and Size tabs
allow further refinements for selecting the files that the Search Library
looks into -- for example, you can restrict searches to only files between 50
and 100 kilobytes in size, or only files created within the last month.

By default, the WitzSrch program stops every time it locates a file that
contains the requested text, displaying a portion of the file in the
program's View tab and highlighting the matched text. Clicking the Continue
button continues the search for other files. If you prefer to locate in one
step all the files containing the text, set the check box labeled "Don't
interrupt at each search hit" located in the Search tab. This option lets you
go on working in other programs while WitzSrch hunts down files in the
background. The program discreetly beeps when finished searching, and you
will find a list of all located files in the File List tab. Double-clicking a
filename in the list opens the document in its native application.

If you wish to copy one or more of the filenames to the clipboard for pasting
elsewhere, select the desired filename(s) and click the Copy button. As is
standard in Windows, pressing the Ctrl key while clicking filenames lets you
select multiple items in the list.

Leaving all the boxes blank in the "Search for" tab causes the Search Library
to find files based solely on filters, not search strings. For example, say
you want a list of .INI files in the Windows folder dated within the last
week, regardless of their contents. Simply clear the search strings in the
"Search for" tab, type *.INI in the "Location" tab, and specify the desired
date filter in the "Date" tab.

Uninstalling
------------

WitzSrch.EXE and the Search Library do not create or alter other files, nor
do they make changes to your system registry. If you wish to remove the two
files from your system, simply delete them.

About the Witzend Search Library
--------------------------------

The Witzend Search Library comes in two forms: a fast dynamic link library
and a compact ActiveX control. Either form can add super-fast search and
replace capabilities to any Win32 application, Web page, or ASP page. Besides
the ability to quickly search through disk files, the Search Library can also

	* Replace text in files

	* Instantly search for and/or replace text in memory buffers

The Search Library exports an intelligent and intuitive set of functions that
are easy to incorporate into your programs. Just to make sure, the Library
package provides an exhaustive online user's manual, and also includes
extensive sample source code designed to illustrate how to use the Search
Library in applications written in C++, Visual Basic, and VBA. For example,
all the C++ source code for the WitzSrch.EXE program is included in the
Library package.

The WitzSrch demonstration program you have downloaded speaks more eloquently
for the Search Library than we can here. Run the WitzSrch program yourself --
if you decide you would like to add the same fast searching capabilities to
your own Win32 programs and Web pages, contact us at:
